    Different Gas thread

Now I don't recommend this, nor do I plan on doing it again, but the attached photo will show you what your gas gague looks like when ou have 1.4 gallons left. I was able to put 17.6 gallons in right after this photo, which was taken with the car still running.

Aw come on Paul, can you give a little more precision on that number?

My record fill was 17.630 on 5/22/2004.

I just wanted all of that dirt out of the gas tank to clog up my fuel filter so I'd have an excuse to upgrade to the high-flow filter.

    Didn't work.

Be Careful Folks....Don't assume all our MM gauges will show the same at LOW fuel levels....You might be thumbing a ride to the nearest gas station.
Also; It's NOT a good idea to let your tank get that low, as the fuel pump is cooled by the gas in the tank. I used to run my truck's tank down to fumes all the time UNTIL my fuel pump got noisy and then finally died.

    I believe mine goes lower...

And it's true that they all do not register the same. There is actually a TSB out on the fuel sending unit. On some cars the effect is worse than others, but the problem ones move off full very, very quickly if they will even go all the way to full. Then they go way, way below empty. Safer than running out at 1/4 tank, though!
Thanks to Darrin @ BC Automotive:
$1800 and it was worse than when he started!

I filled my with just over 16 gallons just last week and my needle was above the E mark.

Does the system actually hold more than 19 gallons?

Any information on the TSB? Years/VINs effected?
