FYSA anyone looking to buy the cloyes set: I bought the cloyes set and it came with plastic body tensioners. I ordered the metal tensioners which I feel much better with.

If you don't know who Zack is you really should find out,do a search and see if you can find his posts. He's been on mm.net a month longer than I have and I seriously doubt ANYONE knows MM's better than him or built more good ones, fast ones,or repaired more of them then he has.
He's the ONLY guy I'd trust with my MM engine.

I don't know him personally, but I've seen his posts for sure. I can see he's knowledgeable, I'm just asking what post was being referred to that I should be listening to. In this thread all he said was about the slack and rotating the engine to remove it. I guess I'm just not following what that has to do with my posts since then at all.

Good move, those plastic tensioners failed on me. Their replacement with cast iron (FR cam timing kit) and a resulting loose bolt in the cam sprocket is what caused me to rebuild the motor. Completely unnecessary, although I did want a more powerful engine.

The guys at Livernois claim they have had a few failures of the cam sprockets in the Ford Racing kit, so they buy the FR kit and use Cloyes sprockets. And the Cloyes are friendly to degree.

I've bought and used 2 as the basis of 10 second Street car builds. Really just depends on the motor. This one I wasn't able to open up before I bought it which was a risk I was willing to take to get a motor with the DC heads

Just got done with a leakdown test. The motor needs to be rebuilt. Check out the results. Probably needs a valve job. Time to tear it all down. Sigh

At least you didn't blindly put money in it and bolt it in your car.

I did a compression test on my car the other day, I'm going to do a cylinder leak down test. I've done them in the past, usually knock out the carbon and everything is tight on older cars..

Where do you get the percentage blowing past the rings?
How are you seeing air past the rings into the crankcase?

Just wondering Willing to learn lol

As long as it was healthy I was going to put 99 Cobra intake cams in, timing set and call it done. Not now.

After 4k my current engine that is in the car burned 3.25 quarts of oil. No external leaks. I hate Ford.

being a hater wont help bring a good resolve to your issue. I never take an anything out of the boneyard that I don't automatically assume it must be rebuilt. Ford builds good stuff I think, get great service from all my fords. use to have GM's got tired of working on all the time! positive attitude will help. I bought a 4.6 DOHC engine that was suppose to have a better than average chance of being a good core engine and actually turned out to be total losing gamble. not fords fault the engine was mistreated and or non maintained and don't complain that I ended up with total pig of a deal just saying

Problem with Aviator engines is that they were in Aviators. Loaded up with screaming brats, mom never checking the oil level, dad towing his ATV trailer.....All in a truck 400 lbs heavier than a Marauder
