Plan some stops on the way across the country. Hooking up with other Marauders on the way. Break up the trip, add a couple extra days, much more fun. That's how a number of us made the trip to Vegas last year, I continued on to Santa Monica, CA Pier, dipped our feet in the Ocean and started our return trip to Cleveland, OH.
(Enjoyed Vegas enough to return this week with two daughters, one of which has job testing and interviews. Having a blast visiting with FastMerc, and Fremont Street Experience, Top of the World@ Stratosphere, Hoover Dam, etc)
MARAUDERS get me ****!
Ms.D and I are booked. Couldn't find where to put in the HHonors # to get member points. Maybe we can do it upon check-in. Looking forward to driving on Ohio's gold paved streets, 16.5 tax jeez!
16.5 tax? on what? we dont have a tax rate that high

HH points are taken care of by hotel desk at check-in. Don't ask me why, it just is that way. Just make sure you show your card and remind them to update your account, at check in.
I believe every city or county can have a different "bed" tax. I'm sure that Cuyahoga county raised the tax in time for the RNC.
I was able to book from my hhonors page using the group code for the group price. Make sure that you do update at check-in. If not a member already, please join hhonors for the free wifi at this Embassy. Besides, the points add up quickly and help earn discounts on future stays.
MARAUDERS get me ****!
You are correct and keeping track of the taxes is complicated. Generally, each city, county, and/or town imposes taxes for hotel/motel occupancy. These taxes are typically controlled by the States who allow the lower jurisdictions to tax through legislation.
I just stayed in Carlisle, PA where there was a 6% State Tax and a 3% Local Tax on a hotel room.
In Virginia, the hotel room tax amount depends on where you stay. Some cities, counties and towns are more greedy than others. Typically, it is a 6% State Tax plus a 6% Hotel Tax (where 2% is for Hotel Occupancy, 2% is for Tourism, and 2% is for Regional Transportation). Some cities like Richmond get to snatch another 6%. So the range is about 12-18% in Virginia.
I have also seen a Resort Tax at some locations levied on top of the above.
These taxes get approved Locally or appear as Referendums during voting season and are always "sold" on the basis that they just screw the visitors from Out-of-Town. Pay backs when you are Out-of-Town is a biatch !!

The room taxes still beats the alternative, which is sleeping in your car!

Now you know why a hotel room in Manhattan is for the rich and famous. Also why there are no car shows in the city, unless you sleep in Jersey.

NEED some expert advice... I need a quality trucking company to freight my Marauder from Sacramento to the Cleveland OH Marauderville Embassy hotel.
Just landed "a work trip" in Arkansas the week after Marauderville XIV... just a short 13 hour trip after Marauderville Sunday/Monday gets me to the office in time!
Then I can drive home from Arkansas again!
IF you know/trust a great trucking company--post up or PM me please.
