found a car for the girls

    And me

Couldn't pass it up. I was hesitant to purchase it as I didn't want a project car or something I knew was a can of worms. I also wasn't sure about having three girls 21 and under driving an older car (but look at two of their smiles below). After a test drive the car drove so nice I was ok with getting it. Still not many crumple zones and no airbags but it is a big solid car. I also think it will be safe enough for local driving, not sure I will let them on the highway — maybe later but not right away.

Its a 1972 Cutlass convertible 350 4bbl, bench seat, standard base hood. AC, PDB, PS, courtesy lights and electric door locks, that's it for options. It needs a ton of body work but came with all new panels and complete one-piece floorboard. Interior is mint except for a couple of tears on front seat and could use a carpet.

Drives really nice. New tires, new brakes, new springs, shocks, front end. New radiator, hoses and belts. Starts and runs really nice. Easy for the girls to drive, steering a little sloppy but they are getting used to it. Car does not have nearly the amount of pep I thought it would but that's ok its smooth and can get out of its own way if necessary.

The girls are really excited about it and I'm thrilled to have a car they think is cool. I'm not sure how much they will actually help with it but so far they are offering opinions and help.

Plan is to keep the body the way it is for now so I don't have to worry about dings, scratches etc. We are cleaning up an extra set of SS2 rally sport rims I have which will make a big difference. I bought a set of used sport mirrors as there is no passenger side mirror. Most of what we will do first is safety and easy/cheap appearance items.

The one thing I am already enjoying is knowing I can tweak the car with no real worry about its W30 pedigree. I.E. instead of re-chroming bumper for $800 I can buy a repo 442 bumper with exhaust cutouts for $299 and that is ok.

Yes, only because my wife is making me, goes in for a new top tomorrow. i know, I know, you all would kill to have a wife make you spend money on your car but with 4 kids I have enough bills. Though as I said its been fun looking for parts and planing what's next. The yellow is a great contrast against the MM, had them both out in the sun today.

Yep, I thought I was crazy, a bit nervous to let them drive a rear wheel drive 44 year old car but I think its safe enough and they are digging it. I am happier about that than anything. Their friends love it.

Cool car! That yellow reminds me of my Uncle's '66 Chevelle in "Lemonwood Yellow". From the pics yours might be a little darker shade but it looks good. Enjoy!

Wonder how long it will take for dad to come home with a Corolla to swap out for his new project?

It is suposed to be Sunfire yellow a little brighter yellow though not as bright as the 70 Rallye 350s that were Sebring yellow. The yellow on it is either a 70 Bamboo or a mid 60s Saffron which is the same color as your uncles or very close.

Not sure what yellow we will go with but I already made a MAW decision today. Top is being replaced so MAW do the torn front seat, ok might as well do the back seat to match. well both seats are out might as well replace the carpet. Dang that slope is slippery

And really I'm doing this backwards, should really be doing body first but as mentioned let them enjoy without worrying about scratches and dings.
