Saw this amazingly BAD dashboard layout in a Scion XB at the Baltimore auto show.
JEEZ... what a friggin' useless mess!!
Amazing thing is that some automotive 'design stylist' got paid to come up with that ridiculous POS.

I was tempted to take out a hole saw and cut 3 or 4 big holes in that vast expanse of wasted grey plastic.
That way I could hold a big Coke, a Slurpee and a few beers in the dash!

I would think that shifter would be quite dangerous in an accident.

    LOL.....Yes, you are quite right!
Why be bothered by troublesome details such as what your engine is doing, how fast you are going, and any other pertinent information needed for safe driving!?
I'm really surprised that they didn't have a BIG lighted vanity mirror and a HUGE stereo/video screen mounted in front of the steering wheel....

I think that's what the extra space in front of the steering wheel is for...all of your electronic devices (ipod, tablet, cell phone); after all, that stuff is more important than mirrors, turn signals, and a speedometer anyways...

What amazes me is that you were actually looking at a Scion XB and spent the time to take pictures.
