DENSO spark plugs - more HP ???

    Logan & All,
DENSO makes a IT20 colder plug thet will fit our MM's with the Reinhart Chip.
They say it will free up more HP. Some tests were done with Cobras and it produced more HP. The electrode is much smaller and the spark kurnel is alot larger.

    Any thoughts ???

I don't know about the MM, but I used to run ND plugs in all my motorcycles. Anything else would foul in the 2-stroke dirt bike but when I changed to ND I never fouled another plug. Hotter spark, I suppose, because the plug was the same heat range as the NGK and Champions. I thought since they worked so good in the dirt bike I would try them in the rest of my vehicles and ran them in my street bike, MkVII w/5.0, and F150 w/351W (before I changed to a 460). They worked great. When it got time to change plugs again, I could never locate the ND car plugs again. I had bought the first set at Pep Boys and they quit carrying them.

If they were readily available, I'd be running them in all my vehicles. Where do you get them?

I've run Denso's before in my Lightnings, specifically the IT20's you're referring to and yes, they're great plugs. Expensive as all heck, but great plugs. In my Lightning at least, I found my idle smoothed out and they were worth 2 ponies on the Dyno...

Just a thought... Since I'm running a DR delta chip, maybe the colder rating of the IT20 plugs will help make more power at the 93 octane setting but the better exposure of the spark will reduce the tendency to foul at the 91 octane setting. Hope so, anyway.

Denso Iridium plugs, the hot set-up. They are the only plug we have seen that can stand up to 42# of boost. We have used them exclusively for years in the race car and the street cars. We are a Denso Dealer and we stock them. They are not cheap. $11.99 each.

When I talked to Dennis last week, he mentioned that he feels the Desno plugs in the kit he sells are worth about 10 HP.

    Hope he's right...

I recently bought my "kit" from Dennis. He is now offering the Denso's and highly recommends them.....so I bought them. I will be installing them (and the chip) next weekend come rain or snow.

Denso IT20 is the way to go, IMHO.

I have a set of Denso IT20s sitting here waiting for dyno testing. I'm also waiting on other stuff to install and test before that, but I will have "before" and "after" pulls to show you before all this snow melts.

    Meanwhile, whether it's 2 Hp or 10 HP, proven in testing or not, my research into the Denso IT20 shows they are the best spark plug for our application. I'm mostly a "numbers, not opinions" guy, but inside that, numbers are just numbers too. My chief concern is a solid, clean burn through the power spectrum, from idle to redline. IMHO I think the Densos will do the job. The rep of this product, as well as the reps of those who swear by them, is good enough for me, and I say it's a no-brainer, despite the costs. I expect that running the test will just nail down some numbers we can toss around. Read more here, if you're still looking for facts;

Anyone know the recommended mileage interval on changing the Denso plugs ? I have never used them before but will do so now.

    Thumbs up Denso Plugs

I understand that we should change them(IT20s) at 30k, check at 15-20k- some will go to 50k. Talked to Erin Brock at Denso
( http://www.densoiridium.com/index.php )and he also said the
smaller center electrode cools alot faster and this could help keep us
here in Calif. ie. 91Oct. Gas, away from pre-ignition. It goes without saying these plugs produce more power. Be sure to check out the installation inst. on their website. Care must be taken when changing the gap etc.
Dennis Reinhart is now selling them at a good price so you can order them from him.

The Denso site's look-up chart for the MM says we should be using IT16s, not 20s...are their heat-range numbers backwards (higher # = colder plug?) ?

    **Nevermind...I looked a little closer...the 20 is colder than the 16

Also, the link Dennis has for Iridium plugs looks like a FoMoCo number, and it only takes me back to the top of the page...more ?

The DENSO book specifies IT16, just like the 96-01
    Cobra. Gap is .050.

From hottest to coldest, the DENSO numbers are 9, 14, 16, 20, 22, 24, 27, 31, 34 & 37. Our rule of thumb is to drop 1 heat range colder for every 8# of boost or 50 HP of nitrous.
