Kicking around picking up a 73 Maverick

I'm kicking around picking up a 73 Maverick. I already have a 72 but cars are like guns, you can never have enough. I've watche this car on Craigslist for a bit and the owner has dropped the price considerably. Mainly due to a problem with the engine. It possibly has some Cam bearing issues.

    What do you guys think?
I had something interesting to put here but I lost it in transition... damn... now I'll never rememeber... You know who should be maddest of all? All of you reading this because up till now you've been looking for something good. And I got nothing... Sorry.

How costly are Cam Bearings to replace and how difficult? Thats what I'm worried about. And I gotta convince the wife. Thats the hardest part.

That's a good buy especially if you can pull/install the motor yourself.
Pull the motor take the short block to a reliable machine shop and have
them pull the cam and do new cam bearings, plastigage the rod and
main bearings while you are in there just to check.

You have the Mav. You have the good lookin' Taurus. Save for the next MM and finish up the current Mav. Do I sound like your wife?

Have you seen the car in person?

If it looks as good in person, I would be all over it.

I wish it was closer to me!!!!

its about 45 minutes away from me. I don't want to waste the guys time looking at it if I can't convince the wife. I may try to sneak out and look at it this weekend tho.

My little brother had a Comet GT like that back in the day, a nice car. If you want it, get it; you only go around once in life then you are dead a very long time.

Well guys I ran it past the wife and She has denied my purchase. Something about no money, bills, putting our kid through college, a car already sitting in the driveway, and now the enormous amount of hail damage to our Taurus and Fusion. She says if I sell the Maverick I have now I can buy the other one, but only after the first one is sold. So I'll just keep working on the one I got. I don't like the bumpers on the 73's and up anyway.
