Marauder vs. Grand Marquis

In my search for the car I will eventually replace my current box with Iam most interested with a marauder. However i'm more interested in the performance aspect of the marauder compared to a grand marquis.

Now I know the 04 Marauder came with a 4.6 v-8 and I read somewhere that stock they came with around 300 horsepower. Well the 06 Grand Marquis comes with a 4.6 v-8 aswell I think it only puts out something like 220 horsepower but other than engine specs what are the main differences between an 06-07 Grand Marquis and an 04 Marauder. Does the Marauder weigh less? Can the Marquis get the same type of proformance? Are they basically the same car? Like, if you can buy proformance parts for the marauder do they also work with the marquis..., body styles are almost indentical...

Welcome to MM.net!
Some diffrences in the MGM & MM are:
Different rear and front end.
DOHC vs SOHC
ECT,

You can modify the MGM, although there are few parts the the MM has that could adapt to one, it would be cheaper to just buy a Marauder and modify it to your hearts content. The Marauder and the Grand Marquis's interior is different also, The crown vic and MGM share the same grade of leather, while the Marauder has the higher premium leather shared with the town car. There are a few members who had modded their MGM's to very high horsepower ranges, I'll reply later once I found the member,

03-04 Marauder = 4.6l 4v/DOHC
92+ Grand Marquis = 4.6l 2v/SOHC

The 06 Grand Marquis makes 224hp, 239hp when equipped with the HPP option.
The HPP option has comparable suspension performance to the Marauder, and shares numerous upgrades. The Marauder will have the handling advantage of 18" wheels, however, these are a direct swap if you wanted.

With the addition of an Allen Engine Development 6psi supercharger kit, the Marquis will be noticeably faster than a stock to mildly-modified Marauder. With the 9psi kit, even more so - but you risk premature engine damage/failure.
Neither can run with a supercharged Marauder, however, it will still be very quick.

A 2006 Grand Marquis can still be found as a left over at many dealers, and will cost close to many used Marauders 2-3 years it's senior.

The brakes, suspension, wheels, steering and interior.

The Intech motor responds very well to a power adder.

Look at my sig and the timeslips.

Well, If you are looking for a warranty go with the Grand Marquis. Otherwise do not settle for anything other than a Marauder. I own a LX sport, cause I got it new for 12 grand under sticker, and I still kick myself because I like the Rauder so much more.

I have an LSE and a Marauder.
Both are great cars, the Marauder is enhanced a little.
Not even close to the same car, even less the FI

You are also comparing a -02 front end to an 03+ front end, though

I traded in a dang nice 2001 crown vic lx with very low miles for a stock 2003 marauder with higher mileage on it. Car payments jumped about 180 bucks a month more. Had to have it after test driving. Don't even test drive a Marauder until you are ready to purchase.

You can mod a MGM so that it will run as good as or faster than a stock Marauder. But you'll end up having more money invested in it than if you just bought a Marauder to begin with.

Here's an example. I just bought my '03 MM the first of the year. It's a very rare color combination (Silver with Light Flint interior), has low miles (21K), and is in excellent condition. I bought it from the original owner and paid $18,750 for it.

I know a guy whose parents just bought an '05 MGM with about the same miles, and paid $13K for it. By the time you spend $5000 on a supercharger, $1500 on wheels and tires, $500 (or more) on upgrading the suspension, and $350 for dual exhaust, you'll have $20,350 in that MGM. And you still would not have the Marauder look or the Marauder interior.

Yeah, a Marauder will be a couple years older, but the platform has not changed since '03 when they did the chassis upgrade. Spend some time looking around here, on autotrader.com, and eBay. There are some nice Marauders for sale out there. You'll be glad you did, and so will your wallet.

I agree It's cheaper to buy a Marauder than Mod a Grand Marquis. I sold 2000 GM (Black, 7K) with the handling package to buy the Marauder.
That was an excellent move. IMO.

I ran with pauls car at the NE hooters meet. His car had every bolt on ( i think) known to man for the NA marauder. I was appx 7 cars behind him in my (nearly stock except for exhausts) 2002 GM LSE. He felt, and i would agree that with some gears, a tune, and cold air intake i should definatly be on par with a stock marauder.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback it's all extremely helpfull. I guess I need to just really get a test drive in a marauder to see what I think! I've been in a palm beach edition Grand Marquis and i've driven an LS and the palm beach was INSANELY comfortable so it needs to beat that. The LS was great it handled perfectly and it didn't seem too slow for a boat. But, I still wanna go fast sometimes..., I like to do burn out every now and then you know; show off a bit LOL.

Anyway again thanks for all the help guys..., this forum is so kind and helpfull it's a relief.
