Quality COPs?

After reading the thread from a few months ago about Cheap COPs, and finding another thread on what's bad about made-in-China COPs, I tried looking for some COPs that are not made in China.

I found these, which appear to be made in the USA:
AIP Dragonfire coil

Has anyone heard of these or tried them? Their warranty isn't great - which might be a good thing, since it's clearly not a selling point. The price is discounted on eBay right now, and my need for new COPs is becoming dire since mine have various amounts of cracking and water entering the internals.

As to the Motorcraft coils - if they're also coming from China, what's the point?

Exactamundo! What's the point?

My cheap cops are still working just fine in both my cars.

I don't see where it says Made in USA.

There's a difference between generic/off-brand/no-name parts that are made in China, and quality parts from a reputable company that does oversight and QC that are made in China. If it comes from Motorcraft, it will be a good part regardless of where it's made.

Just buy these: http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...KeyField=11228

Where they are made does not determine if they're good or not. Many ignition products made here in the US aren't worth a d@mn as I've seen many MSD and Accel coils fail not long after installation.

I believe, in general, that's true. But as to the ignition coils in particular, I'm not so sure. I've been reading several accounts on some F-150/250 and Lincoln LS forums about made-in-China Motorcraft coils being replaced after less than a year. I'm sure the motorcraft coils are fine out of the box, but it's the longevity I worry about. And the price.
The FRPP coils are available for a pretty good price right now, but I read they are the exact same coils as the MC DG512/543. If so, they're not any better.

I am curious as to why lots of coils are failing and what might be causing it since I have a PILE of miles and almost 9 years (7 years Supercharged) on my OEM FORD coils......never missed a lick as far as I know??!!

I am running 0.030" plug gap with copper plugs if that relieves coil stress.....interesting!!

As far as I know ya cannot beat FORD QUALITY!!

You are one of the lucky ones!

You beat and went way beyond the odds.

I wish mine lasted as long as your's plus I decided to go with aftermarket Crapatellis.

I ended up installing OEM, Motorcraft, 5 months later.

Just can't beat OEM for coils like many have said here in the forum

Motorcraft coils are made in China but there are "Pink" tops which are "value oriented" parts like the aftermarket cheapo's then there are the ones we sell which are the OEM GT-500 coils that fit on all 4V modular engines.

Mine had no markings. The old Motorcrafts just had stickers.

Found a set of Visteon 60-1001 coils for a great price, so I went with those. Made in Hungary. Visteon makes or used to make OE Ford coils, so I'm hoping that's what I got.
