Stock MM speedo read 122???

I know you are all going to think I read it wrong, but I didn't. I hit 122mph in a stock MM. I have pegged the 116mph governed speed numerous times. I felt the urge to hit it again, which you all know doesn't take very long. At about 95mph, I had thought the car had shifted in to overdrive, so I hit the overdrive off button. The car didn't down shift so I realized I wasn't in overdrive after all. I waited for the annoying hickups from the governor, and it seemed to take longer than usual. I looked down and the speedo said 122! I am absolutely positive it read over 120. I had to slow down due to traffic, and I have not had a break in the snow to try it again.
Any ideas on what may have happened? (other than I read it wrong)

I to have hit 122MPH,but was informed here that my speedo was probably off?Not that I suggest you try this! That fast is just fast.The thrill for me is the kick in the pants from 35MPH to 85MPH!

From my understanding if the OD is off the car will hit 120 some.

Gary is right, the joy of owning and driving an MM, is the fun one can have between 30 and 90 mph. The mild mods many of us have done, is more like removing the restraints, than building a race car.

Yup, same here. Don't really enjoy going fast, just like getting there quick.

I take it that 03 and 04 had a different top speed....before my tune mine would hit the limiter at 125 mph.

My MM is an Oct 02 changeover B/A with "A" tranny. my speedometer has been police calibrated --reads 1 mph slow at 80 mph--get speed limiter at 124 consistantly--to each his own Maury

When mine was bone stock 124mph was when the speed limiter kicked in.

Although this thread began in 2002........ When mine was stock I saw 127 on several occasions. Now I hope that will be my 1/4 mile trap speed.

I have had mine up to 125 mph several times before it just won't go any faster even though I'm white knuckled at the time. I imagine my son's Police Interceptor will beat me but he better not even think about it.

ran my 03 up to 125 before i got it tuned. had it over125 one time,no need to see more. the real fun is 0-90.
