Anybody on here into home theater tech or have a nice setup? I've been planning mine for years, and finally got it set up just how I want it.

Here's what I ended up with:

60" Vizio P-series Ultra HD 4k set

Sony BDP-S6500 4k Upscaling Blu Ray player (based on reviews, not 4k ability as it's redundant)

Pioneer Elite VSX-45 4k receiver

Paradigm Studio 60 v2 front mains

Paradigm Studio CC v2 center channel

Paradigm Studio ADP v2's for surrounds

Pioneer Andrew Jones SW-8MK2 subwoofer

Everything was bought in pieces, waiting and waiting for a good deal. Including the TV that I bought last year, I'm in for less than $3k.

So what's everyone else running?

I have even junkier Dolby 5.1 with, Cerwin Vega, Sony TV/BluRay, and Denon amp. :violin: Need to bring myself to justifying 7.2

I don't blame you. Honestly, 7.2 is behind the times now. You're better off going 5.1.2 or 7.1.2.

I had no need for anything that complex in my space. Atmos really wasn't worth it to me (yet) as I don't have a dedicated theater room. Also, I don't need rear surrounds because I'm using dipole's for my L and R surrounds. My room is 13x26x8.5 and the surrounds are dead in the middle, to my immediate left and right.

My favorite scene to watch, so far, is the first race in Need for Speed. When the train horn blows to start the race, I swear I thought something was going to break in my house.

Try the ambush scene at the beginning of the original Iron Man :D

I've got a humble 4 channel setup using two ADCOM GFA-5500 amps, Vienna Acoustics Bach speakers and a Samsung 52LNA650 LCD. The home theater PC with an ASUS D2X soundcard drives the amps directly.

It works well, especially for music. A subwoofer would help for those rumbling spaceship passages and explosions in movies.

Two of my favorites are Jumanji stampede and James Bond Goldeneye opening sequence when plane comes out of dive. Make sure your neighbors aren't home and turn the sub to 1/2 volume. Predator is also good.

I'm in the process of going from 5.1 to 7.1 now. Just really not looking forward to running wires through existing walls etc. I run a Optoma HD80 DLP projector to a 110" screen. Yamaha receiver, custom built speakers and sub cabinet with Polk Audio F/XiA4's for the rear channel. Spent way too much money, but what can you do besides enjoy it.

I need to upgrade my system. We had to get a new TV last fall, (Samsung 60") and the damn thing is so high tech, I can't hook my older Denon AVR1000 receiver to it. Need HDMI. Still running my Pioneer HPM 1100 speakers I got at the PX in Grafenwöhr West Germany in 1982. They sound great in stereo playing music. Nothing like kicking back and rocking out to my Pink Floyd. I want to get surround sound for movies. At least our old TV would hook up to the stereo. Even without surround sound, the large speakers made for a great movie experience.

Problem is, I'm trying to modify my Marauder, Build a gun, (.308 AR) wife wants to redo the kitchen, and my 118 year old house needs a roof....

I have Sony equipment, a Klipsch 12" 440watt sub and the Energy Take5 system and a Samsung Smart TV. It will make your arm hair move during The Matrix helicopter scene when they rescue Morpheus.

If you don't do the last thing on this list, you won't be able to do anything else...including the wife! :D

So the 7.1 stuff is worth it? ALl I have is 5.1 stuff

You need a large room for it. 2 fronts, 2 on the sides, and 2 at the rear, plus a center makes 7. Most 5.1 setups I see, the rears are misplaced to the sides, but they still sound awesome.

It is nice but it is not worth the extra costs of speakers... I did it just because I setup a theater room.

I agree 100%. For most rooms smaller rooms, I would actually rather have 5.1.2 for the atmos effect. Having the sound come from above rather than behind (straight into the BACK of your ear, remember) really helps open up the presence.

If I do upgrade at some point to a 7.1 receiver, I plan on running just that. My dipole surrounds do a good job already at projecting forwards and backwards. A couple of in-ceiling speakers just above my couch and about 2' forward would do amazing things.

Used to sell the stuff. Can't wait to build mine up. My dream is to own a pair of large Martin Logan electrostats for quality live recording music listening.

Yes please. This is my HT test scene of choice.
