I am closer to the twin cities but I live in western WI near Eau Claire. I am looking for a good shop to do 4:10 gears. I'm searching for the future. I don't want to get the car out until spring.

Any shop that works on Mustangs. Check local Mustang forums for recommendations.

I completely understand your concern for finding a reputable shop. I've had an ASE cert master mechanic at one of the highest rated local shops beat my new Ford 9" pinion/carrier bearings on with a hammer because he was too lazy to use the press. Once had a Ford top technician completely screw up another 9". Turns out he couldn't use a dial indicator. A few other mishaps untill I found a good guy. Too bad he's past away now. So, I'm looking again myself.

We've had numerous hot rod shops come and go because of shoddy work done by the hired help.

The rule is: Just because someone does something for a living doesn't mean they know or care about what they're doing. That's true for all areas in life. You can drag your car to another shop when they screw it up, but when you get a doctor with these qualities, it may cost you your life. If I had listened to a half dozen doctors, I would have checked out over four years ago. I've found it best to research, interview and talk to lots of people about a future decision. Watch them work (carpenters, electricians, etc) if possible. Nineteen out of twenty opinions will be worthless. You just have to smart enough to know when you hear the right one. That's the trick.
