Does anyone have instructions on removing floorboard pad behind brake and gas pedals?

Water is leaking down a wire through the firewall and through a grommet in the floorboard pad above the gas pedal. I think once I remove the floorboard pad I can seal the firewall grommet.

Thank you.

He may want to pull that insulation if it is holding water - water makes rust and rust makes my baby pissy...

It might or might not be glued in. Either way just pull it out, fix the leak and reinstall.

Do you know what's causing the leak?
Could it be the gasket under the windshield wipers that's causing the leak?

Seems to be a common problem with a lot of panthers:

"Can't you get to it from the engine bay side??"

Maybe, after looking at how hard it is to get to I will jack the car up and see.

"He may want to pull that insulation if it is holding water - water makes rust and rust makes my baby pissy...

I have a box fan going now that it's not raining. My biggest fear is mildew, this stuff must be mildew resistant because it's the only thing around here that does not mildew.

"Do you know what's causing the leak?

I had the windshield replaced and assumed that was it, but I was lucky when I went in to have it checked it was a slow day. He showed me where it was dripping from the wire thru the grommet. But when I fix that I will also check for the WW area. Our minds are predisposed to find "the problem" when frequently there are several different problems at the same time.

"It might or might not be glued in. Either way just pull it out, fix the leak and reinstall."

I will try this before removing the padding.

Thanks to all for your help!

Pull the dash.

I would agree with this one. After the last hurricane my GM drivers side floor got soaked with several gallons of water. I pulled the seats and carpeting like you have and couldn't see how to remove this pad without pulling dash. I finally put a couple of wood blocks underneath the padding to raise it up and directed a gigantic fan at the pad. Finally dried out, but haven't put everything back together yet. Haven't yet figured out how the water got in.

Why would you pull the dash when all grommets are below the dash???

To reach grommets I agree.

However, to pull the insulation material in question to dry out. I couldn't see anyway unless the A/C and Heater Air Chamber was removed. I haven't broken down a Marauder or Grand Marquis to that level. Guess I should be more precise in future posts.

Perhaps someone can elaborate if the insulation material can be removed easily without tearing everything apart.

May be a mute point though since the OP and I have dried the pads using fans.

Either the garment between the door and the body has been compromised or the weatherstripping around the body and door is leaking. Mine are removed and my driver side floorpan is alway wet when it rains...

I foamed filled the grommet by the gas pedal.

BUT it still leaked. I brought it to the Dealer who diagnosed a hood latch cable grommet.

No more leaks!

But I had reservations about this Dealer. In the past I was very impressed with the Service Manager, 2 Senior Techs and my Service Advisor. When I went there all new faces?
My reservations were borne out and I will never return.
When I walked up to my Marauder I noticed the radiator cover clips were sticking out of the hood and on top of the grille frame. I opened the hood and correctly installed the radiator cover.

When I got to my house the following items needed fixing;
• the hood latch was not adjusted being off to one side and all the way down causing the hood to be misaligned and difficult to open
• there was a small scratch on the rear part of the drivers front fender
• the bolt holding the windshield washer tank was striped
• the interior trim piece around the hood release handle fell off
• the carpet was placed on top of a trim piece exposing a wiring harness.

I am convinced the Tech was intoxicated. Guess I am lucky more damage didn't occurr.

Took me 2 hours to fix their mess ups.
