You mean cross over tube? Aka COT? Are you doing a eaton swap? Yours corroded? They are discontinued from ford

Thanks for the info- That may be it, can you see the attached picture? Does the crossover pipe replace this part #?

Have you recently opened the cooling system? If yes and you did not burp the system then you have air in it and will overheat until you get rid of air pocket. The cross over tube does not cause overheating

That doesn't look that bad. I would clean and paint, get a stainless steel plug and burp it correctly. Call it done.

First off clean your engine bay. Then clean and paint your cot if it's not leaking, then burp your system. Google reische burping procedure and should be first link.
