View Full Version : Mid 11's.... here I come!!

Well I got it into the mid 11’s for the most part. After working around the low NOS bottle pressure’s that comes with the cooler temps. I finally got my MM to go 11.63 @ 117.2. The weather here in MI has been cooler then it should be for this time of the year so my bottle pressures have been less then optimal, so I simply made up for it by making the NOS jet a little bigger and finally got the gain in ET that I should have with what appears to be about a 50HP hit on top of the 13.8psi of boost. As usual when I go to Milan Dragway, I knew that I would get one or two runs so my intensions were to spray it on all passes to get the most out of my visit there.
Unbelievably on the first run I gave it a good brake torque… about 1300rpms. This is starting to push it with the stock, tight converter, it really wants to creep forward. Then just smacked it when the lights came down. All the NOS starts flowing right away, right out of the gate.
The traction was perfect on this run…. 1.65 sixty foot. Not to shabby for nothing done to the suspension other then the Nitto-305 drag radials on the widened rims. That was it though. On my next run I tried to brake torque it even higher… this resulted in the most tires spin I’ve ever seen with this car and ended in a high 12 second ET.
As Usual it was time to leave so the two runs was all I got. At this point I don’t see my MM getting any faster then this. I’m going to continue to leave the entirely stock exhaust for now and looking only into the '04 Marauder's looser stock torque converter and maybe a bigger, oval throttle body and that’s about it. I absolutely drive it every day and it drives with out compromise still. It sure did make a lot of people look twice once I got back to the pits and opened the hood. I will post the time slip as soon as my web server guy helps me out in a day or two.
Thanks

2 questions...I've never heard of NOS being used from the start, only from about 2 gear forward. This is very interesting. Do you have a button you press or is it automatic?
Might want to invest in one of those three spoke ricer MOMO wheels with wee red N20 buttons:lol:
And...I forget what the other question is...I'll get back to you:up: ...
BTW, VERY cool, one nice MM...:)

Congradulations Lidio! I find it impressive, especially since you are also running on the stock exhaust. How long do you think it will be before you hit 10's?

Nice run Lidio. That was me you saw on Gratiot Saturday night headed in the other direction. I will call you this week. Again, nice run.

Right out of the hole is the only way to fly....traction permitting. I run mine on a wideopen throttle switch. On an automatic car it is best to have a stall convertor. If you have no stall, then it is best to put it on a window switch. Ideally you like to be above 2500rpm when you activate the N20.

A lot of people don’t know me a as a Nitrous guy but I’ve played with it since the late 80’s on my Mustangs and customer vehicles as more time went by. When using small quantities of it, especially as a “DRY” kit… You can pretty much hit it as early as you want. When messing with “WET” NOS kits…. Hitting it to early can be a big problem on some applications because the Nitrous is a very light gas that can get to the combustion chamber faster then the additional wet fuel that’s being injected with it. On some manifolds this situation will cause back fires and a lot of problems. But when only the Nitrous gas is induced into the manifold and the fuel enrichment is handled through the existing injectors and fuel system (providing it will all keep up) the results are much safer and better all around on mild street type kits and some very serious high end stuff as well.
On my MM the Nitrous turns on with a WOT switch only, so when I arm it, it comes on as soon as the pedal hits the floor! When I arm the NOS, the arm switch also switches the chip into a secondary mode that pulls timing, adds fuel, modifies shift points and raises the idle so I know, or don’t forget its in NOS mode. Its quite seamless and is working very well on top of the boost. As long as I don’t detonate it I think the stock long block will hold up pretty well.
I think until I do some more serious stuff to the car, 10’s in the ¼ mile for me are out of the question. The car is so uncompromised when driving it normal around town etc. with the stock tight torque converter and the stock exhaust… its just disgusting to know what the car is capable of and not really any outspoken signs of it when the car just sits in a parking lot or drives by and you hear and see it. Just sounds like a stock MM.
Thanks

Were you in 3rd gear when you hit the 117 mph? What was your rpm?
Mucho quicko! Way to go, Lidio!

Yes its in 3rd gear... I've configured the chip to also lock the converter at about 105mph also as long as the gas pedal is all the way down. This is usually worth about 1-2 more mph in the 1/4 and a little bit better ET as well. The tach is at about 5600rpm at the finish line. On the chassis dyno my MM makes power till about 6600 rpm… justifying a 4.30 to 4.56 gear if I really wanted to squeeze even more out of the car, but the 4.10s with the slightly taller Nitto 305s are perfect around town and for daily driving.

It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Lidio's Marauder!

I think I can pretty much say that Lidio has my dream Marauder when I finally get some funds to bolt on a blower. Lidio, would there be any benefit to locking up the torque converter any earlier under WOT? Wouldn't that help to reduce heat, and increase efficiency allowing a little extra power to reach the wheels?
