View Full Version : Marauder PCM programming compared to 2004 Mustang

Can any Ford PCM experts enlighten me as to what differences in software (or hardware, if any) there are between the 2004 Marauder and the Mustang Mach 1 4.6L 4V PCM? I would like to understand how similar the programming of these near-identical powertrain cars is. Let's say both are automatic transmission cars.
How can I identify my PCM model, is it under the driver's kick panel? Can I query the PCM for this information using Torque Android app? What about the XCal3?

The Marauder PCM is tied in to several accessories rather than just being a transmission and engine controller. The Mach1 PCM is more of a powertrain control module.

Is the Mach 1 PCM a different generation?

It is totally different. Different alternator control, different fan control, several other differences.
Some numbers for Marauders:
2003 300A -----BMD0
2003 300B ----- CRD1
2004 ----- MAV2
I think there was another one on very early '03 300A Marauders.
Some numbers for Mach 1: (from a post on svtp)
2003 MT -----ZYA2
2004 MT -----TMX2
2003 AT ----- LUF3, LUF4
2004 AT ----- SYM2, BFG2

Thanks for the info. Not what I wanted to read, unfortunately.

Did we just lose out on Kenne Bell?

Engine swaps are legal in California when functional emissions components in the original configuration are retained, same model year or newer, same vehicle class (no truck engines in cars). CARB-approved accessories for the donor engine/vehicle combination are legal as well. So a Kenne Bell 2.8L supercharger and JBA headers for a 2004 Mach 1 Mustang are legal on a Marauder if it is an engine swap.
The PCM issues sound daunting. Can you contribute any info about the PCMs Mustang vs Marauder? What does the PCM identify about itself over the OBDII port? Can this be manipulated in programming?

I have used this PCM in earlier model cars, such as a Fox Body Mustangs, with no CEL. But those cars have less PCM controlled items. I think you'll have problems as pointed out by Fordnut in earlier posts in this thread.
Let me di sine more thinking on this.

Maybe you could have a two PCM setup. One to control the engine and transmission only and another to control the accessories. Splicing wires so that some are going to the engine PCM, others to the chassis PCM, and some spliced so they go to both.
I had to do something similar when I went to a standalone transmission controller. Speed sensor and throttle position had to be spliced and go to both computers.
Make sure the PCM will work for your model year car. The '03 transmission has a different pulse count per revolution than the '04 transmission.

Pulse count can be adjusted. We had to do this in mine.

Would that be a California compliant modification?

Or..... with a Ford IDS, blow the "as built" from the Marauder into the Mach 1 PCM, I am not seeing the problem...

A solution along these lines is what I would like. It would be perfect if I could program The Marauder PCM to identify as Mustang over the OBD2 port.

In experienced hands, will an Xcalibrator4 Flash Tuner work - allow one to re-program the Marauder PCM to our liking?

I doubt it, but I am not a PCM expert.

Yep, works over the OBD2, the bad news is the $600 a year subscription, a $1600 pass thru device and a capable laptop to make it all run. Now if you had a buddy in a Ford dealership.............:rolley es:

Besides the laptop, where do I buy what is needed: pass-thru device and subscription?

The more I think about it the more this sounds like a viable option. Get the wiring harness from the Mach1 and mount the OBDII connector in the Marauder normal spot. Leave the Marauder OBDII connector hooked up to the Marauder PCM. Remount it in a concealed location.

Software is from Ford as well, you'll have to sign up for it through Fomoco.
I can tell you first hand, it IS NOT user friendly, It runs in Windows, but the stuff seems like it is designed for Europe.
