Whenever the air compressor comes on in my car it's loud. Much louder than the 2002 crown Vic I used to have. What gives? Just FYI, when I put my k&n intake on, I was supposed to relocate the compressor muffler, but when I took the factory airbox off, I didn't see one there. No hoses or anything that I could see either.

Sounds like your pump is on it's way to a peaceful journey!

Source for a new one? Anything special about replacing them?

Mine did the same thing.. Lasted several months.. Then one day it just wouldn't come on. I sourced a good low mileage used one from a user on here for $100. Quiet and working like a dream.

Arnott industries , theirs is powder coated, and has the better warranty, nothing special , just remove, and replace.

Cool thanks for the info. I read somewhere it could possibly be the isolators making it so noisy? Any truth to that in your experience, or is that just wishful thinking?

No not at all , when these pumps get that loud they are on the verge of seizing up.

Ok I'll order one tonight. I show rockauto selling a dorman and a westar unit as well. Any major differences in these 4 we've mentioned, or are they mostly made by the same manufacturer etc?

Replace the missing muffler = quiet again.

Yes but I didn't notice a line hanging or anything. Does every car come with one? f I sourced one, where would I connect it?

I'm not familiar with those , don't know that i would buy a compressor pump from doorman , i like the Arnott industries pump personally , and if your compressor muffler is missing definitely replace that.

its just a little plastic box with a rubber hose.

The port the hose hooks to will be obvious if you look for it when the pump is running.

I'll see if I can find a pic for you.

Not sure if available, may be a boneyard pick part.

Someone will chime in with info.

Looks like I have this pump in the car:http://www.amazon.com/LL129-Gast-Air-Compressor-O-E/dp/B005J8VPMK

Doesn't look to be OEM. Correct me if im wrong. It is rusty as hell though. My airbags look like they were replaced as well, they look newer.

I'd be leery of anything with the word "Dorman" on it.

I have no experience with the Suncore unit, but have heard they're good. I put an Arnott in my car and in Bunny's and I know they're good.

Suncor products are good. ^^ what RF said about Dorman is correct

The muffler is there to make venting quieter. It's not used for intake air.

Try pulling the pump out and shove some foam or something underneath it before bolting it back in place - or replace the mount isolators/bushings. I did the foam trick and it made it a lot quieter, though you could definitely feel it more through the floor of the car. Use something that doesn't compress so that it stays firmly in place - you don't want it to end up covering the drainage hole. Cardboard compresses, don't use it.
