My first car was a 10th anniversary 79 TA. BOUGHT IT 900.00 out of a barn in 91. I was 14. Yes it was the X vin # silver anniversary car
Ended up selling 3 10ths for 2 20ths turbo cars.
Those 77-78 SE TA's have been sweet since they came out! Add a cowboy hat and a mustache and your livin the dream :)

Love the car overall but that engine has got to go. I'll take a butler real pontiac motor please.

This is the only way a new Camaro looks good.

When my son Mark was in High School, I bought the '79 Trans AM for him to drive to school. (black, gold everything, snow flake rims, T-tops, etc.) It had the 400 cu in engine.
We had to redo the interior but what a beauty. We also rebuilt the engine and put some modern parts in it. This included a throttle body fuel injection system so it would start on cold winter days and he could get to class.
After Grad School, he sold it and bought his first Mustang.
The guy who bought the car from him comes to our car shows to let us know that it went to a good home.

If you look closely you'll see former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden in the video. For those that don't know, Burt Reynolds played football for the Seminoles back in the 50's. He was on the same team as Lee Corso. Back in the 80's and 90's he was a mainstay on the sidelines of football games. Oh yeah, the car looks sweet!

I like it, but no longing love like with a '77.
Why they went with round headlights instead of square ones totally misses the mark for me. It's part of the signature of the car. Probably a limitation on the way the housings are made these days, but still....
And the 2 tone seats with camel? Ugh.

You have spoken Pontiac gospel. People just don't understand, the traditional Pontiac engine, with aftermarket heads and roller cam/injection, will run any LXChebby. And be PONTIAC toque monster!

only 79 model with a 400 was the silver anniversary with a 4 speed. All other 79 cars had an Olds 403, or Pontiac 301 :shake:
Was the engine swapped to a 400? Cool car for a high school kid :D

Bam! There it is... Something about the front bugged the heck out of me. Square lights are a must!

Yeah, I would buy that in a heartbeat if I had that kind of money.
What's not to love, powerful, black and gold, reminiscent of the 1977 Bandit Trans Am, rims and ******ing T-Tops!!!!!
That car would be crap if it did not have T-Tops!

Please! The chevy engine will run circles around anything Pontiac ever made!

My son's car was an auto trans. It had the Olds engine. We also changed the shifter mechanism when we did the engine mods. The new shifter prevented accidental shifting into reverse when making a pass at E-town (or Route 287).
