Sunday as I was driving my '63 east on I-94 I passed a truck with a flatbed open trailer behind it. On the trailer were 3 aluminum Cobra bodies (on wheels) with no paint on them. I honked and gave a thumbs up as I passed and the driver honked back, but I wish I'd have gotten a picture of it. Makes me wonder about the story behind that load.

Probably a shipment from Kirkham Motorsports....they make a beautiful aluminum body Cobra replica.

Thanks. Didn't realize anybody was doing them in aluminum. Thought all the repos were fiberglass.

It would seem odd to have bare aluminum bodies travel out in the open from UT to MI..They could still be Kirkham ones, but maybe already local and going to another fab place or something ? maybe some high end classic dealer is having built to put on their showroom?

If you guys like Cobras, you'll probably find mine interesting.

http://www.racesystems.com/cobra for project pics.

It's a Kellison Race Cars "Stallion" powered by a "little" long-rod 435 cubic inch big-bore, 385 series ford big block with custom EFI based on OE 5.0 Mustang stuff, and front dress and a V7-JT Vortech. 1080hp/960ft-lbs to the wheels with the 14lb; 7500rpm redline, and really really hard to drive on a road track and would ignite the tires on the freeway in 4th from 55mph roll-on. I run a 6lb pulley on it now and it makes about 800/700 to the wheels with a 6500rpm redline. Still enough to downshift to 3rd and ignite the tires on the freeway. Trans is a custom-adapted Dodge Viper 6spd (easy to do now, but in the day it was difficult). Brakes are a combination of Corvette and Viper parts (corvette rotors, viper calipers, custom brackets). I can swap rotors and pads front to rear; handy for road-race consumption. After destroying the 9" rear, it now has a Quaife; which has been bomb-proof so far.

I had researched these about 15 years ago. I saw one for sale, and the 460/C6 auto/power steering that most Stallions came with was up my alley.
They are longer and I believe wider than factory Cobra spec.
I have not seen another, until yours. Very cool.

OMFG!!!

I just looked at the Kirkham price list for their 427 Cobra S/C kit.....

With the same options as my (fiberglass body) ERA 427 Cobra S/C it prices out at $150,000+ .....!!!
(and I'm sure that does not include an all aluminum Shelby 427FE engine.)

:awe:

It is a really nice aluminum body Cobra.....but $150 large is ridiculous.

If you have your heart set on an aluminum bodied Cobra, it's still WAY cheaper than the real thing.
