For those of us who don't have "sound" experience and knowledge in buying stearo equipment for these cars, it would be neat to have those of you who do post up the speakers, head units, and amps used that easily fit and work well in our cars.

Especially those that maintain the steering wheel functions.

steering wheel function with aftermarket is an interface made by Metra and PAC

And sometimes the interface works. I have the same stereo in two of my Marauders the next button works in one and does not work in the other. The volume button works in the other but not in the one. They are the pioneer AVIC8100 units.

My first interface was a PAC and was buggy. My next one was a Metra and never once an issue and way easier to program.

Dude... Plenty of folks upgrade our crappy systems... And reverse back up camera is a modern day blessing.

Thanks. Could I get some more input on interface from more people? I love the hell out of my system, but the steering wheel controls on mine have been buggy too. I'll have to check with my stereo shop to see what one they used, but it's not right. I didn't know there were more options out there for the interface.

I just installed a new HU and used the axxess aswx-1 to keep steering wheel controls. It was in easy install and the unit programs itself. The only issue I had was that I also needed changed the HU steering control (in the menu) to "external". Works great.

The Marauder is a fun car to do stereo swaps in. Huge trunk, 2DIN hole and enough charging system to power anything you desire.

Awesome! What head, amp, interface, and speakers did you use?

I've seen some photos of some impressive systems, but many of them use a lot of that big trunk for a sub enclosure. I wanted to keep as much of my trunk as I could because mine is a daily driver. I took out the factory sub enclosure and bolted a small box to the shelf beside the spare tire.

Had to mess with the controls on the head unit for quite a while to dial in the sound I like, but it has plenty of ways to adjust, so it works very well. I went with a Kenwood DDX 393 head unit, and JL Audio everything else. The door speakers are JL Audio Evolution C3 5.25" component speakers, and the 5x7 versions are in the rear deck. One thing is, I got lazy and the sub was the only thing I did myself. Paid a stereo shop to install the head unit and speakers. In my defense, I'm half crippled and don't get around too well anymore.

JL Audio XD700/5v2 5-channel amp.

The enclosure was an odd shaped sealed box out of a previous vehicle, but it was just the right size to fit. It mounts a down firing JL Audio 12W3v3-2 sub.

To avoid drilling into the fuel tank, I welded some bolts to the shelf floor.

Then bolted it down.

Still got my entire trunk to throw stuff in, and it hits hard.

This system is well matched and sounds phenomenal. I just have to try a different steering wheel interface. This one works most of the time, but has glitches sometimes. Push vol down... vol goes up. Push vol up, skips to next track.

I'd hate to crash the thread and one-up everybody else but my system is all Eclipse and JL Audio. I put a retail price to replicate it at around $11,000 with labor and components. There's a few threads here with sweet pictures :-) http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=100497&highlight=stereo&page=4

Nothing wrong with you having a more expensive system. You probably make more money than people like me. I'm a crippled old soldier living off my VA disability. I think I remember your system. The real fancy competition level deal that lights up. It looks cool as hell, and I'm sure it sounds great, but even though that's not what you'd find in a typical daily driver, doesn't mean that you can't share ideas.

I did indeed. I managed a car stereo store for 9 years and built this as our showcase vehicle. It was never driven except to shows and events. To this day she is a garage queen and hasn't been out for 3 weeks. It was quite a simple build. The enclosure is sealed and slips in tightly above the axle. The buildouts on the sides suspend the amps and are easily removable for bulb changes. The suspension and fuel cutoff switches are accessible. The floor conceals the spare and some tools/spare parts. The upholstery and lighting made it look top notch.

Damn nice work.Shame it doesn't get out much. Do you have a nice (but maybe simpler) system in your daily driver?
