My father Waymon Sr. (86) has been put on hospice care as of Wednesday. Just came home from hospital Friday and is not doing so well. He's been on dialysis for 2 plus years and also battling reoccurring bout of hiccups and belching for past 4 yrs. Had a mini stroke a few weeks ago and just diagnosed Wednesday with stage 4 cancer in lungs and on liver. Nurse not expecting him to make it much longer, if he keeps refusing dialysis.
Please pray for my mother, who just turned 80 in June and is currently the primary care giver, while the rest of us kids have to work during the day. Send her the strength and fortitude to be able handle this particular time in her life. Also, pray for us kids that we may be able to render much needed assistance and comfort to her during this critical time.

Waymon - I will pray for your father's comfort; I will pray for his Hospice caregivers, for they are truly angels on Earth; I will pray for your mother, that she finds strength from all that surround her; and I will pray for you and your siblings and family, as you love your parents dearly. God Bless.

Waymon, so sorry to hear. Debbie, my better half is a hospice RN; take advantage of all that hospice offers, a good hospice can be a godsend to the family as well as your father, making him comfortable, therefore making your mom's life easier, accept their advice with an open mind. Debbie experiences too many families that surprisingly don't want the patient to have pain meds, because they don't want them to get addicted, etc to drugs like morphine. A good nurse can prescribe the right amount to take the edge off the pain, but not leave him doped up, making for a more pleasant time for all involved. She may even be able to get assistance for a few hours, just so that she can have a break. Don't be afraid to talk to his hospice team about what help is available for your parents. The more communication, the better.

I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers, Keep us posted.

Thanks EVERYONE for your prayers and well wishes.

Today was a good day for him. He was able to muster little more energy and move unassisted in bed (side to side). He sat up in his wheelchair and watched the Olympics for a bit. Ate a little better, what he did eat. He still refused to go to dialysis today, but that is good and bad. Bad he hasn't been since Wednesday, good because he can save what little energy he has since the sessions drain it away.

Ken, you are right about hospice. They bought the comfort pack Friday. We haven't had to use any of it yet. Two nurses and a social worker come out Saturday and Sunday to explain it all to us. The one nurse yesterday was so sweet and cute to us and especially mom... WISH WE COULD KEEP HER.
