What performance upgrades can be done to the 4R70W besides a JMOD. I'm a curvy road cat, so keep that in mind. I know if I want real control and optimized performance I should just do a manual swap, but I don't have the budget and don't really wanna go that far on this 1st Marauder. Thanks!

Any at all. Other than the JMOD and a cooler and maybe a bigger pan, I don't know what else can/should be done to these, if anything. 88grandmarq, I been seeing your the resident trans expert here, lol.
Thanks!

I had my trans rebuilt with a different converter and the jmod along with much better guts, made a huge difference - I believe they were Art Carr parts

what are your goals and what do you expect the transmission to do. The Jmod makes it shift firmer, replacing the separator pate and the shift valves eliminates internal pressure leaks.

He mentioned curves, twistys, road racing... With an auto trans, do you really want it hitting gears fast around a corner? Maybe manual shift strengthening ideas? I sure wouldn't want to be blazing around a mountain road with a heavy car, rear wheel drive and the next gear hits unexpectedly... He's not rolling in the 1320!

I have a tune, a cooler, and gears with billet control arms and mine breaks tires loose on the 1-2 shift with the firmer CA's. I am leaning toward the JMOD, too.

Yes, I read that. which is why I am asking what he expects the transmission to do once its modified. Somethings are physically impossible, others are not as impossible, but require more money and time than its worth.

Again, I ask the OP... what are your goals, what do you expect the transmission do be able to do, what is your budget?

Is there a manual valve body for these? That could do away with unexpected shifts.

I'm guessing heavy duty parts, severe duty fluids and a proper tune for the type of twisty's you plan on driving on would be a good start. Since you most likely will be driving on a variety of twisty mtn roads your going to need to compromise your shift points accordingly. Personally if you really enjoy mtn driving and that is your hobby I'd invest in a manual.

NEVER! HAHA! No, they're good cars and the best for my style driving, but not realistic for me at all, lol. I'm a guitar player, so I need the room to haul my Marshall stack and guitars and some luggage. I'm also 6'5 so they're kinda small for me, lol. Great cars though!

RacerX knows what I'm about! Well, for this 1st Marauder, I'm keeping it a daily driver, so it gets driven hard, but not as hard as I'm gonna run the next one. Also, it'll be seeing highway driving a lot too. I'm not sure on my budget yet. I was gonna kinda plan around it when I found out what all is available, but I'm gonna have to go a different way. I know my tranny may need some work. I have 127xxx miles and about once a month, my OD light blinks, but I just turn the car off and back on again, it's fine. I'm staying NA on this one. I plan header back exhaust, CAI, Marty O tune, and maybe 4.10's. I'm not listing the sus mods, but I'm doing all the norm. I just don't know much about the 4R70W or what parts are available. I not sure how to explain what I want it to do. It's gonna sound super green, but I want it to be more like a manual, without getting a manual, haha. I just want it to be the best I can get it for an automatic and the driving and conditions it'll see. Wish I could hold certain gears sometimes around turns and control the shifts a bit more. I'm not a trans guy so if I sound inexperienced, I am, haha!!!
Hope this helps, man! Lol, I ramble sometimes lol

Yeah, like the guts. Od bands and such. I know there are better than original parts. Or maybe not, lol. I'm new to really getting into transmissions.

Marty and his gang at Mo's can write you a tune for what you want to do. You should give him a call and tell him what kind of gear holding etc you expect the trans to do. You may need specific tunes for specific types of driving. First thing is to get rid of the stock tune and try one of Mo's "generic" performance tunes. It may be enough to make the occasional romp through the mtns a satisfying experience. Fords stock tune is the pits for spirited driving.

I really, do. Besides music, it's my passion. I can work on cars enough to get myself in trouble, but nothing big, but I can drive these Panther's like a MF'r though! My next Marauder I believe I'm just gonna do a manual swap. Once I sell my 67 Galaxie, I can start looking for another Marauder, and go to town!!!

It is. It's not horrible, but I can DEFINITELY see room for major improvement. By, by 26-27mpg highway, haha. I DESPERATELY want to, but I'm holding off until I get some mods done. I talk to Marty every now and again, we're friends on Facebook. When I get a bit closer, I'll definitely call him and have him help me sort it out.

Control arm / watts link upgrade will do more for you on curvy roads than trans mods IMO.
All the trans mods I'm aware of, J-mod, higher stall TC, shift schedule etc. have more impact off the light than on the road.

I would install a scan guage before a trans cooler.

I think the OEM trans cooler is good for a high stall, 550RWHP, daily driving and drag racing.

What does a scan gauge do?

Displays data that it scans via the OBD Port such as trans temp.

ps How do you get in and out of your car, like Maxwell Smart?

Sounds killer. May check those out! Haha, na it's easy in these Panther's, lol. Plus, I'm only 185, tops, so I'm still young and in shape. Might be a different story when I hit 50, lol.

I have dual AeroForce gauges mounted on the A pillar.

Seeing how your car is sideways you must keep the window down and jump thru it or you are one strong guy to open that door.

Hahaha, oh, my picture lol. When I uploaded it it turned it that way, lol, can't turn it, just left it, lol. I thought you were talking about my height, haha. I mentioned it earlier when Miata's got mentioned, lol. My bad, lol. Ueah, those Scan gauges look interesting. I'm gonna have to get one! I'm a suckered for information like that about my car, especially in real time!

I guess a standard rebuild, JMOD, deep pan, scan gauge, and a tune to support my mods is the best answer until I want to go manual? What does a manual valve body do? I'm pretty new to transmissions and trans upgrades. Forgive my green questions.

Oh, maybe a higher stall converter, but will that help if you're not going in a straight line? Also, could someone explain what the stall is and what a lockout is on a converter?
Thanks, again

Still can't really find anything. Just my do a rebuild with a JMOD and a deep pan w/drain plug.

Either get the bits from these guys to rebuild yours, or get one already done:
