This vehicle was featured on Top Gear in June 2011.

Many of the MPV/MRAP designs in use around the world had their origins in South Africa dating back to the border wars in 1966-1989 and Rhodesian Bush War of 1972-1980. It was their solution to the land mine and explosive problem in the absence of technology sharing during Apartheid days. Their protection measures have been adopted by many countries including the US and have been credited with saving countless lives in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. These vehicles are not cheap. Small ones run $250K and the large ones are over $1 Million a copy reflecting increased protection levels and passenger capacity.

The Marauder MPV built by Paramount Group in S.A. Dates back to 2007 and comes in 4x4 and 6x6 variants. Curb weight is 21,780 pounds. Combat loaded weight is 33,000 pounds. About 250 were produced. Protection is up to STANAG 7.62 x 51mm and 17.6 pounds of TNT equivalent under any wheel or centerline. It would be classed as small/medium. Estimated cost is $650K.
