View Full Version : lost my keys: 2008 police interceptor

Hey all,

was wondering if anyone had experience with this... I lost the keys to my police interceptor. But the locksmith is telling me ford does not keep track of police interceptor key codes and theres no way to look it up. where as normally you can do it by VIN. and that it will be $165. thoughts?

Yes the dealer can look up the codes. I don't believe a locksmith can.

Your local Ford Dealer should be able to make a new key without any issue. Call them and ask them for a price. Around this area it is $99.00 for a new programmed key.

cvpi don't have pats, so no programming required

Buy a key and ignition switch off eBay, drill out the old one?

Ford's key database only goes back like 6 years or so.

A good locksmith should be able to create a new key based off an existing lock cylinder.

If its fleet keyed, there are only 6 key codes, it can be looked up in OASIS and 08' should be the cut off years as of right now.

UPDATE:

went to the dealer. Had them look up my vin and cut me three keys, $5 a piece. Went home and tried them, none work... Later, I found my keys. (you guys were right, they were in the last place I looked)

so good news is I found my key and and going to make some copies. Bad news, Vin lookup didnt work. Wondering if it was fleet keyed. Was a CHP car I was told.

At $5 each, I'm sure they weren't transponder keys like I'd imagine you should have..

Take the keys you had made back and tell them you want 3 keys that actually work. You paid for working keys.

Some fleets used the same keys - when I was in college I locked my keys in the car and a state trooper from the same fleet drove by flagged him down and his key opened my door - crazy lucky right - good luck

Not really, you paid for 3 keys based on the VIN that YOU provided, the entity that sold your car changed the locks (so you wouldn't have their fleet key) presumably.

Chock your $15 loss up to experience, now, go jack a CHP car, you have fleet keys.....:D

Another excellent point. Too bad they barely have any CHP vics anymore :depress:

I love the police vehicles of that era, had my hands in helping with a couple restorations, FWIW, I like all cars, not just specific brands.:cool:
