I find it a little odd they plan on almost half assing this with a LCM Bypass Module over a Updated LCM Replacement.

Dorman makes a similar bypass module, but I expected Ford to have replaced the LCMs unless it was really actually cheaper to design a bypass Module.

Just my opinion, but nice to have an idea, thanks for sharing!

What are they proposing to do in Joe the plumber speak?

Maybe this will get my endless chiming to go away?

They are doing the external lcm relay mod...just like what fbm and others have done for years when the problem developed, I'm sure it is far cheaper for them.

Probably close but not the same as the4 mod I provide.

Their "external" relay will look like this

That is a Dorman unit. Ford has installed these in the past with less than optimal results.

This does not address the other three relays which over time will fail also. I replace those relays.

I don't expect them to be the same fix, just cheaper than to make new lcm for them.

This is funny. My LCM just started acting up last week. I can turn the headlights on, but if I shut them off they wont come back on until the car has sat for a long time. Im waiting for them to just shut off or start flickering while driving.

Because of the recall I called my local dealer and told them whats going on. They said they were going to order the part and fix it at no cost. I am curious if I am going to get a replacement LCM, or their "fix".

Thankfully YEARS ago I bought one of FBM upgraded LCM's, so when/if the new LCM goes bad I have one of his ready to go.

I lost my day time running lights the other day. Would that have something to do with the LCM aswell? I've checked the fuses and all seem fine so far.

No the daytime running lights will still work

when the dealer changed my LCM my daytime running lights stopped working, I believe that is a separate module - one day I'll look under there to see.

I find it odd that Ford produced ALL the 2017 vehicles they did on the assembly line, but could NOT produce one part (i.e. the LCM) for us!

Something's not right here.

I believe there is a relay in the BJB under the hood.

This is what I meant by my half-assing remark...

Unless Ford is literally using those Dorman modules for this recall, I find it hard to believe they found it cheaper and better short/long term, to design a unit to only address part of the issues...

Cheaper to produce the replacement part, yes, but they aren't stupid.. they don't want lawsuits from one of the many people in this platform of car. They would have to consider the possibility of their partial fix needing a future re-recall which means lots more $$$ then a full LCM replacement would

Ford didn't make them, a vendor did, just like Ford doesn't make coil on plugs, Hitachi does for them.

So I dropped the Marauder off with Ford at 8AM to have the recall work done. They called me at 2:30 and said the job was "much bigger than they thought". The replacement part "Is bigger and has to be wired in". They arent going to have it done tonight so they are setting me up with a Enterprise rental car. Now to see if I can I get them to give me a Luxury Sports Car equivalent model since thats what I drive.

The replacement part "Is bigger and has to be wired in". WTF, Ford? Talk about half-assed...this isn't even quarter-assed.

Ford didn't make them, a vendor didWhen I had the LCM in Mary's car open (before fbm started repairing them) I seem to remember it said Motorola in the inside.

Well it took 2 days, but Ford finally got it done. They said it took so long because there was wiring done by the previous owner that was causing THEM problems. They installed the new LCM and the lights wouldn't come on. (Which was why it was in there in the first place, but whatever. So they had to figure out the "problem". I know the work the previous owner did and it was top notch. Everything still works as it is supposed to and my lights work, so I am happy.

If they said the cause was aftermarket wiring at the module then they would have charged you the additional labor because Ford would not pay any labor time to fix aftermarket wiring. Something doesn't add up, but who cares if you got it fixed and didn't have to pay from what I understand.
