View Full Version : How to make an '06+ Town Car more like a Marauder?

I'm pondering a hot rod Lincoln. The Coyote-powered Marauder has inspired me that the TC's 239hp 4.6 can become a world-class power plant instead. If I move forward (and I nearly bought a DBP '08 TC with 16,000 miles on it, sight unseen, Friday... it sold out from underneath me. This isn't a pipe dream) what Marauder parts should I incorporate into the build?

What could I get used... sway bars? center console? and what should I buy new?

I'm planning a 6-speed manual with a Roush '15+ 670 hp supercharged power plant. It will basically be the ultimate American performance sedan. Awesome acceleration, decent handling and braking, and a more sporty/contemporary interior.

I know it's probably going to be a $30,000 project.

Thanks!

I have very much thought of something similar. My idea was more along the lines of a N/A or S/C 5.4 DOHC and then upgrade the undercarriage with Marauder or CVPI parts.

This is pretty delicious.

I totally agree, and Zack's car as well.

I'm really impressed with the power potential of a Coyote though and the fun of a 6-speed manual.

That part won't be simple, but there are enough manual-swapped Panthers and the meticulous notes on the Coyote Marauder from Kansas that I think that can all be figured out. I'm looking more for Marauder (or aftermarket) goodies that will help capture the swagger of a Maruder and tuck it under the Town Car body.

I agree with the money number, and I love the idea. I have a 2005 LTC.

I started with the suspension. Chris at adtr.net is the guy I bought parts from, and now that everything is installed, the car handles and rides great. I was particularly pleased with the ride.

Good luck with your project.

Thank you! I'm a little surprised the idea hasn't stirred more responses here!

I am stirred... I am poor, so my idea of using a N/A DOHC 5.4 is what is floating my boat on this project.

Ah well, sometimes it takes awhile for the posts to accumulate. For example, when I last posted, I screwed up the pictures. Let's try that again. It seems to help.

Answers my question about suspension. Basically the same as the MM.

That is a nice setup. It also shows that the engine compartment is about the same as the Marauder.

The weight of a TC will be really rough on a manual. Trim is also something to consider, as finding a steering column that will work and doesn't have the shifter, along with the cover panels, could present a problem. Not to mention a console, bucket seats, swapping out seat occupancy sensors and controls, etc, etc.

A 5.4 (whether a SOHC or DOHC) is a challenge to fit in the MM due to clearance with the heater and with the power brake booster. I suspect the same problem would be encountered with the TC. I would go with something like in the pics (a 4.6 DOHC with Terminator setup i.e. Eaton swap) mated to an automatic.

I dunno', there are pictures of this car in the "Hello from AZ" thread, but the site just tells me I've already uploaded the pictures I tried to post in here. My bad.

Yes, compared to the MM, pretty much the same except for the inevitable march of time thing regarding what's available. The ADTR.net/Eibach sway bars are bigger, (and hollow), plus the shocks and coil-overs are just newer technology. I really am surprised with the quality of the ride.

I once had a Gen II, ('74), Camaro with the complete Rancho setup, (yes, the off road truck guys used to make parts for the F body), and it handled really well, but would beat me up ride wise. Even worse than my brother's stock '01 Z06 which is truly tiring on a trip.

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is I came into possession of my Panther platform through lurking online, but I was unaware of how much potential was there. With the help of forums like this, the car has been transformed. It's gonna' be even more fun when I get the horsepressure up a bit. Thanks to all that chimed in.
