The honk on lock function was really annoying, and I'm sure the neighbours would love me, if I kept it on
I read the manual (I think it's the first time I ever read the manual for ANYTHING), and did the whole "turn key to on, press unlock three times, up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, down up, down, up, start" thing... (bonus points to anyone that remembers the video game that code was used for)
Now the honk doesn't happen, but the flahing parking lights doesn't occur, either. Is there a way to disable to honk, but not the parking light flash? I like the visual cue, to ensure that the doors are actually locked, and when getting back to the car, in the nighttime.

From what I know, there are only the two options. I would love to have it flash only too.

I guess you already know, locking the doors from the driver's door armrest button also locks and sets the alarm.

Hope y'all know that the only alarm is the "panic button" on the remote. The beep/flash just lets you know that the lock was activated. The MM has no alarm from the factory.

While it's not an "alarm", there is a proximity sensor, is there not? If you were to lock the car, using the key fob, and someone then kicked the car, would the horn not sound?
I've already completed an ignition kill, so a full alarm isn't really required. Just wish the lights would flash, without the horn honking... Maybe that's not gonna happen... :( Then it's back to pissing off the neighbours, cause I'll turn it back on, to get the flashing light confirmation.

To let you (and everyone else) know that the PATS is working.

No proximity sensor. They can run into it with their bumper, shopping cart, whatever, and no horn would sound.

I have left the window down after locking the door w/remote. Upon reaching in the window & opening the door w/out using the remote - the horn beeps on & off and the lights flash until I unlock w/remote.

Hmmm, good info. I've been wondering about this too. Go figure. I've had this car for an entire year, done bazillion modifications to it including a S/cer to get it to go faster, spent a total of 40K on it, and I wasn't even sure what the correct answer to the question posed in this thread about the alarm was.:depress:

Wow, I just tried both mine and the wife's and neither of them does this. Is this supposed to be repaired under warranty?
And the guys that have had alarm systems installed must have have wasted their money.
How come the service manual for LS and Town Car describe the alarm system in addition to the PATS security system but the Marauder service manual only covers the PATS security system?
Actually there have been several threads about the alarm (or lack thereof) and one preferred solution is to have a Ford "aftermarket" alarm system installed. Either "System 4" or "System 6" is supposed to work and retain the arm and disarm capability from the keypad in addition to the remote key fob. Most aftermarket alarms will only arm/disarm from the key fob.

I was told of some defective sensor in steering column; that senses and turns alarm on and does not stop until it decides to on its own. I have to take it in again for servicing the alarm malfunction on next scheduled oil change... it is happening again. I keep a wrench handy to disconnect the battery to defeat the alarm when it refuses to turn off with the secret "handshake" code...

key fob panic button or put key in the ignition turn it to on position are the two ways the alarm is supposed to be disarmed. :shot:

Would somebody please post a page number in the owner's manual or service manual where the alarm is referenced?

So Krytin, just to make sure, because I'm agreeing with FordNut, did you have any alarm add ons made to your car or are you bone stock?
I need to know if I have to have a warranty repair for this so called alarm, although I only recall a mention of "panic alarm" in the manual.

Usually on the factory alarms, the alarm will only sound if the door, hood or trunk is opened. So if you were to smash the window, the alarm woulndt go off.

Hey QWK SVT,
I believe the proper code us Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Select, Start.
And that was the code for 100 lives in Contra. I will never forget that code.

It also worked on Sonic the Hedgehog, and most games by Konami. It was also a song by an a group called "The Ataris".

your right in it being Contra for the NES, code is Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A, Start. But it was 30 lives, and select start was if you wanted two player.
As far as the question about "alarm" I have had other cars that if the doors were opened from the inside one the car was locked it had turned on the panic mode. But it never did anything if you tried opening it from the other side.

It looks like it works on some cars & dosen't on others! I haven't looked in the manual but it does work as I have described. My '90 Towncar also worked like this. I have since installed an after market alarm w/motion sensor for body - no seperate glass breakage. Niether the MM or the TC had anything for motion/vibration.

#1 Either sit inside the car, or leave the window open. #2 lock the car with remote or the door lock switch #3 wait approximately 2 minutes (allows the alarm to be activated) #4 open the door #5 (hint) must be opened by the handle inside the car becaused ya locked it :shake: If the horn & lights don't go into Panic mode . as Logan said "we've got a problem Houston":argue:

On my nice new *reprinted* Window Sticker it says right below SAFETY/SECURITY
SECURILOCK ANTI THEFT SYS
If this isn't a security system, then what is it ?
It doesn't increase your MPG,
It doesn't pay the loan when you can't,
and it doesn't fix the ticking sound from the engine...

Anti theft does not = alarm. Rather Anti theft is just that. The keys are specially coded and are required to start the car. This is what is meant by the "Anti theft system." Oh, and that flashing red light is there to scare away some of the would be theives who don't know better....

I'd also like to know how you got a reprinted Window Sticker. I bought my MM new, but they accidentally ripped the sticker in half, when removing it. I'd love to get one with my VIN etc on it...

Go back to the dealer you purchased your vehicle from and ASK for it...
I had my sticker reprinted so I could laminate it and frame it to use at meets.

Before the PATS System, a Factory Anti Theft System was an automotive alarm incorporated into the vehicle wiring from the factory.
As our 'Insurance' companies see it, this 'Anti Theft' system qualifies for a 'Passive Alarm' discount.
Even the PATS qualifies for this, and it is just a matter of your agent's opinion.

I finally tried my own advise on arming the car (locking) waiting a couple of minutes opening the door through the window and guess what happened ?you got it, nothing. Sorry I have been selling fords for 14 years and the pats system has always had an entry alarm (door switches). I think I'm so smart sometimes and there are situations like this that keep me humble.Sorry for the wrong info., I"ll go to my room now.:depress:
