Picked it up on May 11th. 04 Silver Birch. Has only 189 miles. No highway miles, no rain, park 1/2 mile way from everybody, have avoided driving behind 18 wheelers...been veeery careful. Today - washed the light film of pollen off and while towel drying noticed six little black (1/32") pit marks here and there on the passenger side of the car. They don't look like road damage. No dings at all. Just looks like it "flecked" off. Looks like it's from the inside out
Is this what has been happening to our cars. I read about the paint problems on the board before I purchased and don't you know...
Going to the dealer tomorrow.
This whole thing just ruined my day.
Your thoughts/experiences/suggestions.
Thanks,
Dave

Sorry to hear of your paint problems. All I know is the paint on my car must be thin. Seems like every time I take the car out I come home with a new nick, mostly on the hood. :mad2: Good luck with your dealership they will most likely take no responsibility for the problem.

There are many problems especially with the Black Marauders. This may be a first. Haven't seen any Silver Marauders with paint problems. :( Good luck at the dealer. Keep us posted.

sorry to hear that. I had my car 18 months now and no paint problems at all. 5 mil thick everywhere except the rear driver's quarter which is 4.5 mils thick. 4 is considered normal. I do have 3 or 4 chips on the front hood from drving on the highway. I just reapplied paint sealant after 15 months and was amazed that there was no clear coat damage at all. Maybe I got a lucky one.

Your car is brand new...yes? Probably has under 2000 miles...yes?
Take it to the dealer and show them the paint problem. It's covered under the warranty.
Mine had what appeared to be sand specs that were painted over in two spots. You know what will happen later....over time, they'll break, and bang, I got rust spots. I showed these spots to the BODY SHOP MANAGER at the dealer, and even with 11,000 miles on my car, they still warrantied the repaint of the door for two very tiny sand spots.

My '04 SILVER 7 months in my posession 3,000 miles has no paint problems. Just this week got a car cover to keep the dust off it on the weekly down time in the garage.

How do you determine the thickness of the paint? Is there a dealer test, or can you take the MM somewhere like an autobody place and have them go over it for you?
