View Full Version : Radio dead, Audiophile question, Aux wiring

The FM in my stock head unit died, it seems the easiest/best fix is to replace with a 04-07 Ford Escape Audiophile OEM stereo. From other threads here, it seems the needed part no. is: 6L8T-18C815-FD
Question:
I see an "Aux" button on the unit, is there a jack somewhere to connect external device? Or are there wires/pins available to tap a 1/8" stereo jack into?
Slightly curious:
I see a "Sat" button, I assume for XM, correct? Any suggestions for a very subtle XM antenna?
TIA!
I did the conversion a few years ago. If you want sat radio, you will need a sat radio kit. The sat receiver mounts in the trunk and there is a harness that runs up to the dash with connectors to tap in to the radio harness. The Escape radio is sat "ready". I never did find an aux input for the aux feature on the radio.

I have a spare audiophile radio and the sat receiver and wiring.

For the aux in you will need a piece from any reputable manufacturer that "activates" as well as provides you with an 1/8th phono jack. PAC,peripheral, ect.
I would not use one that says it "controls" your phone as those radios weren't set up for things like pandora spotify and itunes folder system. Just a good old fasion 1/8th inch stereo input if what Id go for.
As for the sat radio, you will need either the oem ford xm tuner, or again one of the manufactures above to sell you the appropriate tuner.

The aux connector on the back of the stock and audiophile are the same. Ours is for the cd changer.
I have the stock pin out but since our cd changer will not work with the audiophile head unit, the pin out is most likely different for the audiophile one and I've never been able to find what the hell it is.
As mentioned, you won't be able to find a an aux converter that allows the headunit to control the plugged in device (that is a 2008+ CAN thing). You can find ones that convert it to rca/ 1.8 jack, then you control it by hand.
p.i.e is a good place to start looking.

Thanks for the guidance! I already know control of an external device is not possible. I just want to be able to plug in my phone, mp3 player etc. using the 1/8" stereo jack.
I have been researching the PIE aux converter, but it seems the PIE FRD03-AUX/S is no longer available. So now I'm trying to determine if the PIE FRD03-AUX will work (without the "/S"). Ugh, I so very much hate guessing if an item will work!
Anyone else know of an available AUX converter?

Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram (pin-out schematic) for the 2004-07 Ford Escape Audiophile stereo?
I can't find the PIE FRD03-AUX/S adapter, so I'll need to make my own connector.
TIA!

You are going to be disappointed. I can get the official radio diagram from mitchell ondemand but the aux connector is not on there. I don't know where else to get it.
That is why I'm building my cd-changer emulator to work with our stock headunit. Mitchell shows the pinout for the stock aux connector. You can check out my progress over here: https://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1515737
I'll get you the pinout for what they have for the 07 in a few hours when i get home.

I think I bought an FRD04 AUX by accident years ago and after something about it didn't work they simply sent me a free microchip to get it workingvfor me. You should just call the PAC tech line and ask what your options are. They were really easy to deal with.
