View Full Version : Miles per tank?

I couldn't find anything directly related, so if it's been discussed feel free to point me to the right thread.

Easy question: how many miles do fellow members get on a tank? I rarely fill my car to the brim, but I've seen between 275-320 miles. 320 was really pushing it. Is that about right? 209k miles, fresh plugs and fuel filter, runs top notch. Always premium fuel, usually 93 octane BP.

I average 15.5mpg. About 250 miles per tank. My beater. Almost stock

I filled up today, drove 45 miles and used 1/4 tank. I think I get maybe 9 mpg. I do not baby it and I do not use overdrive unless I am on the highway. The wife has to take Xanax before she rides in it with me. True story....

Miles per tank has too many variables.

Try MPG.

Saturday I drove 100 miles in each direction to the Flying Fish Brewery from my house in Bergen County.

I used 1/2 tank for the entire round trip of 200 miles. I was doing the actual speed limit on the New Jersey Turnpike, which is always more than the posted limit of 65 MPH.

I'll guess about 60-80 miles per tank....

The daily driver (high mile car) averages 20 mpg, combined highway/city driving, me driving it, I check it at every fillup. The new one averages 19 mpg, combined highway/city, wife driving it... Don't know why they're different, she used to average 20 when she drove the other one. Both of them usually get 24 on the highway. I have really pushed it and got 400 miles on a tank.

My black beast, if I'm easy on it, will get 15 or so on the highway, closer to 12 with mixed driving.

With the tune I had and my short commute, between 9 and 10 MPG. The car burned oil for the first time last year, and started in with an occasional miss at idle.

I had to go back to the stock tune in order to pass smog, which is one week every two years to give time for any codes to clear. After last time I just didn't go back to the DR tune, so maybe get 15 MPG now. Bad idea it seems.

Looking forward to upgrading the tune to a new one from Marty as soon as I can.

Exactly 323 miles per tank, each and every time.

I somehow squeaked 293 miles from 16 gallons (18.3 mpg) from my Eaton swap.

As it was stated earlier.... I didn't buy my Marauder for gas mileage.... If I wanted better mileage I'd have bought a Prius..... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get 220 miles per tank.

11 MPG.

Oh wait. Did you mean my 2003?

Ha. Thanks for all the replies guys! I didn't get this thing for mileage either, more just curious if I was in the range of others. 18-19 seems to be roughly average. I guess I'm spot on! I plan on buying my dad's 2014 accent 6 speed next spring when he replaces it, that will really take a load off fuel purchases.

Best I ever did with mixed freeway / around town was 18 mpg. Best I ever did on an extended highway trip was a little over 21 mpg.

Both dropped by 1.5 mpg when I did the 4:10 gears, then another 1.5 mpg with the DR tune.

I only regretted the poor mileage once when gas was way over $4 gal one year, but I knew going in this thing was going to drink Super. Not a buying factor for me.

What I can't figure out is how new Mustang's with more stock HP can get higher mileage and use any kind if gas. (?)

Lighter-weight chassis and body, lighter internal engine components (revs easier), modern transmission, aerodynamic body...

Yes, true there. Our body style is more like a semi-aerodynamic brick... :-)

new mustangs have a much better power to weight ratio from fsctory than marauders did. 4.6 dohc was not known for low end torque.

I'd be happy with a 6 speed upgrade. I'm sure mileage would improve a good amount.

Don't know what Dennis did to crap the fuel mileage so bad in your tune, but both the Lidio and Mo's tunes in our MM's we can squeak 24mpg on trips and get 22-3 most other times.

BTSOM, but I put up with it for a long time, just not having a basis of comparison, or the tuner knowledge of many of you.
If I were racing it I'm sure it would be fine, but as much as I like to go like hell at times, I still have to drive it around town most days where it's not going to go much above 45 mph.
Like I said on another thread, I tried to buy a tune direct from Lidio around 2010 or so. I had heard great things about the all around drivability of his tune. But as soon as he heard that I had done the DR engine cooling mod, and the tranny upgrade, he cut the call short, said he wouldn't sell me the tune with those "useless" mods, then went on another rant about DR and another guy here, where "POS" was kind of repeated over and over.

I got it that he was pissed, no problem here, and from everything I've read of his I'm betting very few people know our transmissions better, but I thought "just as well" at the end of the call.

I was very impressed with Marty on the phone, and as soon as I can swing it plan on getting his tune. Better late than never.

My blue gets exceptional mileage, 350-370 is pretty common for an 18gal(20.5mpg) fuel up for me, I do mixed city/hwy driving prob 50/50, with some aggressive driving mixed in, I am extremely happy with its fuel economy.

My Eaton'd black got around 14 prior to the blower, and gets 11-12mpg when I am doing regular driving now(80% hwy and 20% city) so maybe 200 miles to a full tank, but I don't usually go full-to-empty with this weekend car. When I get on the road coarse I get a pretty consistent 6-7mpg and I can go through nearly an entire tank during one track day.

My 03 P71 also netted a very consistent 250 miles per tank no matter driving conditions - so about 14mpg.

My '04 has a stroked DOHC engine now displacing 5.4 liters. It has the Motorsport racing heads, cams, springs, retainer, Ross dished pistons, etc. I run 4.10 rear gears, and the larger throttle body.

The car has the Stainless works SS exhaust system with full length headers. The car was turned and reprogrammed for these mods. It was tuned on a dyno at Real Speed and came up with 439 HP and 424 Ft-lbs of torque. My MPG averages around 23 if I drive close to 65 MPH. I can't complain with these numbers.

If money is not a barrier, you can get awesome performance and not kill the MPG.

I've only gotten the 18/21 when the car was brand new and bone stock. Can't do anything about the gears which cost me 1.5 mpg down to 16.5/19.5, so the tune is obviously the issue.

Unfortunately $ is always a barrier. If it weren't, to start, I would move to a free state tomorrow and get a real exhaust (not to mention a Cirrus SR-22, a Barrett Light-50, a barmaid, and a new life, but that's another topic). ;-)

So, doing the math, you're running 49 cubic inches more than a 4.6L MM, with a larger throttle body, with 4:10's, and getting the same or better mileage than was advertised in 2003 for a new stock Marauder with 3:55 gears?

I can see how money can buy that performance, but not how it can also buy that mileage, (unless your mods reduced weight somehow?)

Anyway, great combo of performance and economy.

crud, I don't remember the last time I got into double digit MPG. Oh well, it still gets at least 1 or 2 mpg better then the W30

That has to be all highway, correct? Don't know how the same cars can vary so much. (You know, I'll bet you're not in California; crappy 91 octane with 10% ethanol might be a big variable, as I never did better than 90% of that stock.)

Looking forward to a big jump with the new tune.

Largely highway, yes. I commute about 30mi to work, there are 2 small towns i pass through.

I usually average 20 MPG so that gives me roughly 400 miles out of a tank.

it still gets at least 1 or 2 mpg better then the W30Maybe, but your W30 has class out the wazoo.

On the highway 75-80 mph, eaton swapped, 4.10 gears I can get almost 20 mph... in town I get 2 rear tires per summer for mileage...

I just drove 981 miles yesterday and only got 24-25 mpg 03raudr with 208622 miles. Running the ac must kill mpg, last trip this car got 27 and 28 mpg

All freeway it'll push over 400 miles, but my bladder won't lol
