Hard jerk P to D, D to P!!!

This just started and I'm on a 300 mile drive! Stopped for gas, put in park, car jerked hard! Filled up, put in drive, jerked hard again! On the highway now, shifted through all gears flawlessly and I'm cruising fine. What happened? Will I make it home?

If the fluid is low and you stop now you can't add any fluid. I'd stop at the next place you can get Mercon V fluid if needed.

Don't text & drive.Stopped and checked it. It's still full...but I found five or six teenie tiny, one centimeter maybe long, hair wide, pieces of shiny what I think is metal. Dipped n checked a half dozen times, 2 out of six times those almost microscopic bits came up on the stick. Is my trans on its way out!?

Is my trans on its way out!?Shiny metal is likely aluminium or it would have been picked up by the magnet in the pan. Other bits *should* have been picked up by the filter. When (if?) you make it home, pull the pan and see what's in it.

Buy yourself a nice aftermarket dorman pan with a drain plug while you're at it. It makes service checks like this a lot more pleasant.

Made it home OK! After it jerked into gear those few times it didn't do it again. I got it to Atomic Transmission in Villa Park, IL. These guys are the best for anyone looking in IL for a trans place, my family has always gone there, might be the last honest shop in the world. Told them about it jerking, told them I was about 5000 miles from needing a fluid/filter change anyways, so do that and see what there is to see. Pan looked good but they noted that I had a trans line improperly routed, rubbing against a pulley, about to wear through. Also had a line missing it's clamp. Both could've popped at any time and destroyed my trans! Fluid/filter/replaced and rerouted line, $250 out the door. They could've told me I needed a new trans, but they were straight with me again, won't go anywhere else! PS, for those of you wondering why the line was run wrong in the first place, my advise, don't hire a friend of a friend to install your replacement motor...
