I think I have a leak in my gas tank.

Can't quite tell where it's leaking from. Anyone else have a similar issue? Can it be repaired? If not, any suggestions where to get a replacement tank?

How bad is it leaking ?
If you put clean newspaper on the ground could you see drips?
Not a common problem, one area to check (esp.if the fuel pump has been replaced) is the rubber gasket on the front side of the tank.
There's other rubber connector fuel lines in the fuel system back near the tank, maybe one of those is cracked.

Replacement can be from the wrecking yard,I would think any 2003-2004 tank would fit, CV or GM maybe TownCar. You will need new mounting bolts from the dealer if you drop out the old gas tank.

check around where the filler tube enters the tank. there is a gasket and it can corrode there

Thanks for the help. Tried to link an image. Shows the link in my thread, but it's not displaying.

If it has pin-holes there are products from Summit racing and POR that you can put in the tank to line the inside and repair small leaks but I would just buy a new one. I woudn't get a used one either, for a great price you can get a Canadian made Spectra tank for @ $125 from Rock Auto

When I first looked at it, it seemed to be leaking from the bottom on the left side rear corner, but when I looked at it again, it's wet toward the top. So the filler gasket could be the issue. When it warms up, I'll take a closer look. And I recently filled it up, so that makes sense it could be the filler gasket.

Just an update. I drove my Marauder to work on Monday 2/26 which is about 22 miles round trip. So I probably burned about 1-1/2 gallons of gas. No sign of the fuel leak since. So it seems like the filler neck gasket is probably the issue. When it warms up, I'll take a closer look. I just won't fill the tank all the way full until I can get it fixed.

This may not apply to you but in the past some folks installed audio stuff and drilled holes to mount the stuff in the shelf where the spare sits......the tank is just below so you may want to check there just in case there are holes drilled into the top of the tank!!:argue:

Good Luck fixin' it!!
