Sedans. A thing of the past?

I know that the last type of car I look at for my family is a sedan. Although just as capable as an SUV, I guess a sedans trunk space doesn't really matter as much anymore.

I doubt it. Sadly, the Marauder and the current Fusion Sport are/were the best kept secrets of motordom....

My wife just bought the 3.0 TT Mk-Z. It's pretty quick, particularly from 80 to 100.

Nice car. And to think the lowly Fusion Sport only has the 2.7L TT…

Answer is simple, trucks are roomier and generally easier to get in and out of. Americans are getting taller and fatter, but cars(sedans) don't reflect that. I remember "Big" Cadillac's not these munchkin things they make now. Same goes for Chevy and the rest of them. You want a big car you need big bucks to buy one, Mercedes, Bentley, Rolls.

Heck even the Marauder is a pain to get in and out of if your tall and/or fat. Pretty roomy once your in it though. Still needs more leg room for those over 6 feet.

@2Mercs: nice SHO.

At 6-03 at 245 lbs,
I don't have enough shoulder room in a lot of cars. (Yeah my MM jacket is size 2XL and it barely fits.) It's why I like the MM, CV and the GM. Leg room is just OK but I can live with it. Other thing is: leg angle/seating position, trucks and SUV's give me hip problems. But a Ford panther I can drive 8 hrs straight.

Fuel economy: I could care less. 18 mpg is fine even at $3/gallon. So what.
Cargo space: I don't think 5 ft truck beds and most SUV's have much useful carrying space. I've hauled 600 lb of firewood, 10 bags of mulch, a washing machine and a few V-8 short blocks in my panthers. No problem!

Try being 75 and getting in and out of a 2003 TBird with the top up. A real challenge, and I'm only 5'10" under 200 lbs.

Plenty of room once inside.

Owned one of those too...1989 Taurus.
Funny thing you mentioned the engine choices.
I ordered/had my Taurus built because I specifically wanted the 'big' 3.8L V6.
When I came in to pick up my freshly delivered Taurus, I pop the hood and see '3.0L' on the valve covers....:mad:
Dealer salesman tells me that "they must've put the wrong valve covers on the engine"... :rolleyes: ....yeah....right.
Turns out they screwed up my order and I was stuck with that turd Vulcan 3.0. At least those boat anchor Vulcan engines last forever.
I put 247,000 miles on the Taurus before I grew tired of it and donated it to charity.
I surprised the truck driver who came to pick up my donated car, and drove it up onto the flatbed (it still ran fine except for every gasket dripping fluid)....lol

I have both a 2012 Taurus SHO and a 2003 Marauder. I like 'Em both. Room is just fine for me. No problems getting in or out.
