Just received an update from eBay on this car. Incredibly, it still hasn't sold. I'd buy it tomorrow if I could, along with a particular '66 Mustang GT A code for sale in Missouri at the moment.

Am disappointed that no where other than on the carb cover is the name "Marauder"-- thought all had that name elsewhere like front or rear .

Maybe "Kirk" who is the expert on them could chime in and let us all know more--

Its appreciated.

This seller is an eBay regular and generally has ice cars.

I have seen others from this era that have the marauder logo on various parts of the car such as wheel covers, C pillar, and a God's Head lighted logo on the right side of the dash.

The car for sale is a "1966 Mercury S-55"

The whole S-55 thing can get a little confusing. Here's a breakdown.

In 1961 Mercury introduced a "Comet S-22". The S-22 package included bucket seats and console box, with some unique S-22 emblems. Lots of these were sold (14,000 ish I think), but you see very few today.

In 1962 Mercury brought back the S-22 and introduced the Meteor S-33 and Monterey S-55 (S-55 2dr and conv), again all with bucket seats and console (S-22 was still a console box).

In 1963 the Marauder was introduced and the "S" lines expanded.
The Comet S-22 was available in 2dr sedan, conv, and the new 2dr sports roof (think mini Marauder).
The Meteor S-33 was still only a 2dr sedan.
The Monterey S-55 came as a conv, 2dr hardtop, and 4dr hardtop.
And the newly introduced Marauder S-55.

In 1964 Mercury dropped the "S" cars.

In 1966 Mercury brought back the S-55 as its own car. It was a "7-Litre Galaxie" in Mercury trim. It came in 2dr and conv configurations. Convertible production was 690 I think.

In 1967 the 7-Litre Galaxie and S-55 continued. The S-55 hardtop hit something like 570 units, with only 125 ish conv S-55s made. Very rare today.

So the car doesn't say Marauder because it's not one.

On the other hand, every full size Mercury built from 1963-1968 came with either a Marauder or Super Marauder engine in it. Many of those engines said Marauder on them, but not all of them did. The 1966-7 Mercury S-55 used the 428 Super Marauder engine as standard.

Hope that helps.

This is an awesome car!

P.S. The 1963 Marauder S-55 and the 2003 Marauder S55 concept were the only Marauder S-55s ever made.
