JUST KIDDIN' ! But I really did get a new Mountaineer Premier. Black with a Midnight Grey leather interior, it replaced my 1996 Explorer XLT. I hope I get as good or better service out of my Mountaineer as I did out of my Explorer. After 120,000 miles I can proudly boast that my Explorer was never in the shop for warranty work. I will say one thing about the new car, the stereo kicks butt, I wonder why Mercury didn't use it in the Marauder?

Hey, congradulations! Those SUV's are actually pretty nice, as well as being a good value. When you consider feature for feature against a new Exploror, you actually get more for your money on the Mercury version IMHO.

Yup, the Mercury versions of Ford cars and trucks always look pretty nice! The Mountaineer is a very handsome sport-ute! Congradulations, FYRE! AND, I see you picked the RIGHT colors (black/gray)!

My dad has a black 2002 Mountaineer Premier. It is set to go back next week after a 2 year lease and overall I thought it was a great vehicle. It looks especially nice with the monochromatic black paint with the Premier package. Ours had a harsh clunk coming from the somewhere in the drivetrain since new. I think there was a TSB to fix this, but no one ever bothered to take it in. Aside from that, it never went in for any kind of warranty service. And I agree that the stereo is worlds better than the one in the Marauder.
I think the Mountaineer is one of the better SUVs on the market and I have no idea why it isn't more popular. It looks better and seems to offer more bang for the buck than the Explorer and a lot of the other SUVS out there.
