View Full Version : Power Steering with rear air bags delete

I had the rear air bags removed and pump disabled. Now I am told my power steering is always 'on full', which makes cornering at high speed a challenge - must use finger light touch.
Q1. How does the power steering work in concert with the rear air bag system?
Q2. I have no desire to re-install the air bags. That said, what is needed to lessen power steering assist at higher speeds (safety factor)?

I always thought the power steering was speed dependant. This sounds like it's load dependant. I don't believe they're tied together but I am open to learning a thing.

Re-enable the pump.

Do you mind sharing on here? I bought mine with the bags already gone. Would love to know if my steering is compromised because of this.

I don't have bags and my power steering isn't affected, takes corners at speed fine.

Your wiring for the pump is still intact. If it wasn’t you would know without a doubt that your steering isn’t right.
I just showed him the wiring diagram for the suspension module pigtail. It’s copywrited and I’m careful like that.. But yes the steering circuit does go thru the suspension module.

Thank you.
Interesting, learned something new today.

The module in question is called the EVO/RAS module. Electronic Variable Orifice/Rear Air Suspension. The EVO part is what make the amount of steering assist speed-dependent. The failure mode is to go to full assist. Unless you shut off power to that module, remove the module, or mess up the wiring, the two functions are independent. Replacing the air springs with coils, shutting off the switch in the trunk, or removing the power to the RAS compressor will not effect the steering.
I imagine Mr. Lowndex performed further modifications...

Correct. I’ve been in contact with Lowndex and assumed they disconnected the module or the relay to rid the idiot light. I told him to reconnect and to de pin the DG/LG wire at the module to kill the light. Assuming this is all they did he should be fine.

You guys are awesome. How in the world do you know so much about Marauders. I mean, there are no books, Google is useless.
Amazing! :)

Alldatadiy.com for diagrams, torque specs, and whatever else.
Blood, burns, and being a cheap ass self proclaimed re engineerer pretty much sums up the rest..
