3rd owner of Black 2004 MM with 160,000 miles.

Looking for suggestions and tips on how to easily remove the engine.

Engine runs now but has signs of rod knocking so I would like to pull engine and rebuild bottom end.

Is it best to pull the tranny out with the engine or ? The top bell housing bolts look like a pain to get to.

Already installed new timing chains, guides and tensions and did not fix my noise. Checked the flex too and no signs of cracks.

Thank you for any pointers that you can offer. Just trying to get this beast back on the road.

Leave the trans in. Remove the wiper cowl.
You can have it out in a few hours

Thx Zack...Is there a good spot to hook the chains for the hoist?

If you don't have tranny issues leave it in the hole. Get a load leveler to make alignment easy peasy.

Put a chain from the passenger side lower alternator bolt across the removed lower intake manifold, and put the chain on the drivers side head. NOT THE TOP drivers side ear head mount, go down where the egr tube is and fight it a little bit there.

This method you will not have to lift the hood any higher than normal daily driving, if you remove the radiator fan assy,.., oil pan still installed. Right out over the nose of the car.

Strap under the lower intake. I left the harness, blower, headers, hood, and all front dress minus A/C and P/S on and the radiator in. Stupid quick and simple. I changed everything over to the new long block using two engine stands and tossed it right back in.

I even pulled it from the side to keep the garage door closed. [emoji6]
