It was suggested in another thread that i should have a build thread here, i was reluctant, but here we go.....:burnout::burnout:
Little back story to start..
I have always liked the ford panther platform cars. Well I always liked big 4 dr sedans. I've had a few gms and fords over the years. Grown to like the 03+ ford platforms. They have a lot of good things going for them.
Few yrs ago I had purchased a 05 p71 (crown vic police edition). I did a lot of work on it and it became a pretty fun car. I really enjoyed driving it, but I've always wanted a marauder. Not sure why I couldn't of been happy with the p71 as very little serperates the two cars from each other then mostly cost of purchase lol.
What I started with on the 05

This was the 05 before I sold it

I ended up doing full obx header and xpipe and impala ss tailpipes.
Circle D torque converter and aggressive jmod with all the valve body upgrades I could find.
Had the 3.27s swapped out for 3.73 gears.
And a Tune from Marty at Mo's Speed Shop (kinda the go to for these cars and tunes).
Album on that

Enough on the p71.
So I decided earlier this year I wanted to get a Marauder.
One of the most obvious differences in the MM vs the other panther cars is that the MM was the only one to get the dohc 4.6L which gave a little more power over the 2v 4.6L

So I found one that i felt was a decent buy online in a suburb of chicago. It was a high mileage car out of texas. I was sold on the texas idea as it was most likely rust free (and it pretty much was). I rented a car and me and a buddy drove down to get it. Bought it, turned the rental in and drove the MM back home. I believe I purchased it in april.
Of course it had 20's on it, bit neglected mechanically and had a few other issues. The wheels were bent pretty bad and had really loose ball joints, struts worn out. Dead battery. We ended up rotating the tires so the "best" wheels were on the frt. and avoided every pothole we could on the drive home. Praying for no flats (no spare) or broken bj's lol. Rotors all warped to hell etc.

It had a crown vic bumper on it at purchase. Guessing the oem had gotten damaged at some point (couldn't find any other damage). If your familiar with these cars, the front and rear bumper covers are only specific to the MM (mercury marauder). With that said there really isn't any aftermarket production and oem are no longer made. So the only option is used oem. And the market knows this and you pay as you would expect. They rape for them, seems lately if the cars get damaged its not uncommon for insurance companies to total them due to cost to repair. Thankfully I have a guy at a local yard who gives me deals and they happened to have one. So i was fortunate not to pay "market value" on it. The only difference in the bumper covers from a G. Marquis and a MM is the MM had fog lights.

I picked up some fair cond oem wheels that had near new tires on them (same hookup as the bumper cover, same car actually, taht car donated a few parts to me).

While the body was near mint from rust, alot of the rubber wasn't from the texas heat.
Found some mint door seals at a local upullit and swapped all that rubber out.

The seats in the car were a bit worn from 225K of use. That same donor from the yard that sacrificed its other parts also gave up its frt and rear seats. The original ones were worn enough that the gods head emblems on the frt seats were almost worn off.

Now I didnt just steal things from the p71 and not upgrade certain things on it as well. The old marauder seats ended up getting installed in the p71 which is a nice upgrade from the worn cop buckets.

Deleted the rear cats (rear cats on these cars are not o2 monitored, so no SES light) and took the oem mufflers off for some flowmasters.

I purcahsed a 03 mach one mustang chin spoiler and added it to the car (very common thing done to any of these cars, I had also added one to the p71).
The oem wheels just werent cutting it for me either so the p71 donated the American Racing torq thrusts to the MM. I swapped the near new coopers off the oems so the MM kept the nicer tires. OEM the MM has bigger rear tires then frts from the factory as the p71 has the same size on all 4. Thankfully both cars have 18"s wheels so swapping rubber worked out.

The MM also come with a floor shifted trans. (not MM specific, you could get a certain packaged crown vic with a floor shift) And in frt of the shifter is two gauges (these are MM specific).
However the oil pressure gauge is simply a switch. I believe if its like 5psi of oil pressure is all that is req'd to make the gauge move. So the gauge either reads zero oil pressure or 70 psi. It doesnt actually sweep. Its just either 70 psi or 0 psi. I swapped in a direct replacement generic auto meter gauge that does actually sweep and reads true.

The overhead compass is common to fail on these panther cars as the heat soak from the roof damaged the resistors on the boards. I ended up having a coworker replace them for me (way better at that **** then me).

I also ended up regearing the rear axle from the stock 3.55's to 4.10s to wake the car up. I knew eventaully I would be upping the power under the hood so with the regear I opted to install a yukon limited slip, all ford racing bearings and gear set, cobra driveshaft flange and replaced the factory 28 spline shafts for some chromo 31 spline shafts. And a new diff cover. I also swapped out the factory rear sway bar for a larger dia one.

Even outwith any mods, a simple tune on these cars (any Panther) really improves the quality of driving. Ford has the transmission shifts setup so lazy and soft its difficult for a "car guy" to drive em. I mean these things lug in overdrive at like 45 mph they shift so soon.
At this point I had the MM and the P71 at the same time. And the MM was more comfortable to drive and offered a better quality of a ride (MM had air ride in rear vs coil like the p71).
But even with the tune and gear change and that DOHC motor I felt the P71 was still more "fun" to drive. The seat of the pants fun driving was better in the crown vic. I attributed this mostly to the TC I put in that car vs the stock unmodded trans in the MM.
So I drove the MM for awhile like this contemplating my next move. The intent with the MM from the get go was a fun DD and fast. I felt I had achieved everything but the fast part. So near end of july early august I decided to take the next level. I sold the P71 to fund the changes to the MM to obtain that "fast" aspect.

The MM is a returnless fuel system. So my future plans required a return system. The older panthers were return style and there sending unit drops into the newer cars fuel tanks. So I ordered up a new sender and installed a warlboro 455 e85 comp. pump.

Now, the oem motor and trans was nearing 230K miles. I had my eyes set on a target of 600hp. Now to get the marauder drivetrain to this point was gonna require ridiculous $ and work. I've had all the arguments and ran all the #'s to get the DOHC there and I wasn't interested. I did my research and I opted out and said no thank you. I was gonna stick with what I knew and what I considered the easier, cheaper, and more reliable choice....

I still had the 2005 5.3 from my jeep sitting on the floor under the work bench.
So I started on the LS swap. I opted for some swap parts from Dirty dingo. Most the parts I used were mustang swap parts as there really isn't any specific panther to ls swap parts available.
adjustable motor mount plates. This retain the factory marauder motor mounts and bolt them to the ls block. Also adjustable frt to back a inch or so.

The hooker setup offered a nice crossover tube setup that I liked. You can see the oem motor mounts bolted on with the adapter plates. I didn't like how the pass side sat close to the manifold so I made a little heat shield to protect the oem rubber.

I needed a different trans to put the power down, as the only trans I had at the time was the 4l60 with the AA kit for the 231 in my possession and wasn't about to stick a 4l60 into this setup.

So Installed a HD2 kit and buttoned it back up.
I also sourced a edge racing torque converter 'to my needs from High Gear Transmission in Conklin, mi. Joe at High Gear built both my 4L60 and the 4L80 currently in my jeep.
I started test fitting the combo in the car and decided the factory accessories werent gonna work for my needs. So I hit up dirty dingo again and sprung for there swap setup that retained the truck Alt and PS pump.

Up to this point I had kinda been taking time and was kinda shooting to have it driveable end of august, atleast enough to drive end of year for a few weeks.
However my dad had ran into some serious sudden health issues and he really wanted to go for a ride in the car during Grand Rapids Metro cruise (end of august). So I kicked it in high gear and just started doing what it took to get on the road with the intent to "undo" the things I didn't like this winter.
So the pics here on out keep that in mind lol. I did some things I wasnt thrilled about or how things turned out. Build kinda turned to "sloppy" to get it done in time.
Intercooler mounted with min. modification to the car surprisingly.

You might ask why two mufflers or why I did the exhaust that way. My intent was to make the car seem as stock as possible. I intended to run dual pipes out the back and retain the factory tail tips. MY hope was to make the car seem as stock as possible just sound like a marauder with loud mufflers.

After I got it running I ended up adding the tailpipes to it, and just didn't like the way it had changed the exhaust note. So I removed them and just put turn downs on the muffler. This winter I plan to redo the exhaust.
At initial measuring and appearance it had appeared the hood wouldn't clear the truck intake and I didn't want to change to a car intake. So i opted to put a small scoop on the hood to clear it.

But after cutting the hood, i think it may have cleared with just removing key parts of the underhood bracing. I have another black stock hood. I may change the hoods over down the road. I am not sure. GLassClass makes some nice hoods, I may opt for one of them as well. But i've read alot bad reviews so i'm uncertain

Unfortunately I didn't reach my goal. I didn't have the car ready by the Metro cruise weekend. I gotten it to run but not enough to drive. I ended up being a week or so late. But I did end up getting to take my dad from the hospital for a few hours and did the cruise in my King Ranch with him.
I decided to continue on and atleast get a few weeks in this year driving it.
Engine bay ended up pretty sloppy, I have every intention of cleaning all that up this winter as well as hooking up ac etc. That air filter setup didnt last but a few road trips before I did that alot better lol.

I did end up at the dyno, not one I usually use. But the only one I could find to get on. I wasnt thrilled with both the results and how he was doing it. He wouldn't lock the converter for a pull (my TC can handle it). I felt he was starting the pull to high in rpms. I see 16-16.5 psi in the car, he was only getting me up to 13 psi. And he was cutting the pull off early in rpms. The car sees 6800+ at the track, he was cutting me off at 6400 and I was still making power at 6400. I paid for 3 power pulls, no tuning. He was having issues with his machine. I think he ended up making 6 or 7 pulls before hiting that below. Which you can see in the graph it clearly was reading correctly.

It can do better. We've found my 4l80 has a poopy long 2-3 shift no matter what changes we make in the tune. I am not spinning yet at launch with the radials, and we think with the 3.55's I gain a little more as well. Anxious to see what the spring will bring, cant wait. I had so much fun hurting feelings at the track. Car did pretty much exactly what I hoped it would be. Fast, fun, and unsuspecting. I think i've made 15-20 passes between the two trips to the track. The after race "whats you got going on with that" conversations were priceless. But my favorite was beating alot of the mustang coyote and dodge srt8 guys. I think i put around 4000 miles on the car in the short time I had it running this fall and no real issues to speak of.
My winter plans are
3.55's
fix a spot in the trunk that rusted from a bad seal
Clean up the stereo
Clean up the engine bay
Probably do something with the exhaust
Ive got all the ford stuff working on car except the cruise and the temp gauge
Air Conditioning
Upgrading the frt brakes lol, stopping at the track isn't easy lol, frts get to hot to fast
And if funds allow a new paint job.

Pic from early on getting it going. The street tires are a joke on launches. Pretty m uch just instant red line on rpms and I have to back out. Its fun having a car you dont need to power brake to do a decent burnout. Pretty much stab the throttle and once boost hits the tires are gone.

I did have one issue early on. The hooker crossover pipe flex cracked and broke on me. I ended up cutting it out and put a solid piece in for now. They are warranting it out for me but i'm uncertain if I want to run another again and take the chance of it cracking.

Interested to know what you did to keep the DBW. What type of pedal mods?
Also interested to know how you kept the MM cluster. What mods to make the VSS work?

My harness and ecm were dbw, but i converted my harness and tune to be dbc. I retained the marauder throttle cable and marauder pedal.
My jeep has a lq9 (6.0L) with dbw. I just modified the pedal itself off the bracket to fit the floor of the jeep. Pretty simple.
I had reached out 96gt4.6 here on mm. Net on the cluster stuff.
bought Dakota digitial converter boxes for the tach and speedo. Tach was easy to setup, but the speedo ive been struggling with. I got it pretty close so far just needs some refining.
Using the marauder ect sensor and factory wiring bypasses the ecm to the cluster.

Suspected for awhile I had a fuel bleed down issue. At cold start up it Crank for a extended time before firing and when it did I'd have some smoke from the exhaust. Pulled the rail this morning and primed the syst and found a couple injectors dripping. I suspect I have some debris holding the pintle open. I honestly can't recall how thoroughly I cleaned the lines etc after I installed them, or how clean the rail itself was. Guess I'll add cleaning and flow testing to the injectors this winter.

Little marauder rust repair on the docket today. My car is out of Texas and is spotless (rust of any kind) everywhere expect this spot in the trunk pan. At some point in its life somebody messed with the trunk lid. When I bought it, it was so poorly adjusted, it didn't seal. I went through a car wash and my amp got soaked. So standing water = rust :(.

Picked up a new intake. 2006 6.0 trailblazer ss. Has really strong flow #s and cheap. My car has a bastard intake on it now. It's a 4 bolt throttle body, but is the old truck style. I think they only put them on the 05 5.3 trailblazer platforms. Should be a nice little improvement.

One of the coolest to date.
It never ceases to amaze me what folks do to these cars. Nice read.
When you change the intake to the SS Trailblazer one, are you going to have clearance to get the stock one back on?
I didn't catch it but, did you put the stock tips back on?

When I redo the exhaust. I'm gonna run a single tailpipe to the Rr. I gutted the stock tip (resonator), so I'll run that out. But hang the drivers side as a dummy tip for appearance lol.

Put in a few hrs today. Stripped the interior, running battery cables and audio stuff etc. Mounting a platform (just hanging loose in pics) for my amps, plan on putting some circuit breakers, fuse panel, battery charging posts, and a battery disconnect on it as well with all wires hidden behind. Also building a trunk organizer platform on the bottom, hide the battery in the bottom of it.

Today's project. Drove to lane automotive (1.5 hrs one way) to put hands on the B&m and tci shifters. Didn't know which I wanted so wanted to feel them out..... Well they are absolutely identical. I couldn't find a difference in any way between the two. Pretty happy with the turn out aside from the screw heads in the panel. But couldn't come up with a way to make the indicator bezel tight to it w/o doing it. Thankfully I had spare center console parts to practice with.
Old shifter didn't line up with gear pattern (Ford VS Chevy) and had no lockout from park to first so any bump of the shifter and it moved easily. I hit neutral at the track on accident and bounced it over 7k and 16 psi at 120mph.
I was bummed I didn't get a mullet in the box or a foot shaped gas pedal.
I would of got an outlaw shifter or Diablo style but since I do drive it on the street the reverse lockout lever seemed it would get pretty old pretty fast. And I wasn't sure how clean of a install I could make with that style.

I gave up on that tattered junk after it kept resting on the exhaust. I removed it altogether and dynamat knock off’d the floor and up the inside of the firewall as high as I could go. Nothing on the A/C and she’s always blown nice and cold.

Crossover pipe input required....
I bought the holley manifolds and crossover pipe. Maybe less the 1k miles in and the flex coupling cracks and leaks (wastegate at 16psi). I had to weld in a solid pipe to get by. I bought a new crossover, should I just keep the modified pipe on the car or put the new one in and take the chance of another fail away from home? Both manifolds are cast, pipe connects the two.

Been acquiring parts, been laid up with a reagrevated back injury.
But I got a call from jet hot today that my pipes are done and shipping out today.
Trans is still at the builder.
Has a setback with me wheels so I had to send all four back and had to find new ones, should see those Friday. Hopefully they fit.

I had 18x9 torq thrusts on it.
I wanted a bigger tire out back and they didn't make a 18x10 that fit so I upgraded to a 20x10.
I then later upgraded my front brakes to larger. And the 18" torq thrusts didn't clear the calipers. So I jumped to 20x8.5 to match the rears.
Well, I got the fronts in, one came one day and the second another. I test fitted the first one and was good. So I mounted them up and brought them home.
Three weeks later I went to put them on last weekend, and the other front wheel was 5x4.75 not 5x4.5. It was boxed wrong. They don't even offer that wheel in 5x4.75 anymore. And apperently they are discontinuing that wheel I had ordered the last two. So they couldn't find me a replacement. So I'm sending all four back and getting refunded.

These LS swaps aren’t as cheap as some like to believe. I’ve had my eye out for a decent priced ‘70 Opel GT, various Datsun 240’s/260’s, and Porsche 928’s (as well as others) to convert but then I start adding up the parts..
Mind sharing a complete build cost with part numbers/vendors when you’re completed for us curious ones? I know you’ve done others so I’m quite sure you’ve learned a few things both good and bad along the way!

Yeah, I had started to keep track at initial build with this swap. Staggered off from it though. I went back through awhile ago. I was contacted about doing a swap for somebody. I figured around $2500 with the guy supplying the engine and trans, N/A setup. That's w/o hooking up a functional air conditioning.

It really comes down to the cost of the donor drive lines that make/break the cost.
When I LS swapped my jeep, I bought a 2005 2wd silverado that was smashed in the front (this is where the engine in my car came from). I found it in a local Facebook group. I paid $500 for the truck. Took the engine, transmission and harness/ecu etc. And sold a few parts from the truck and scrapped what was remaining. I think i made $100 all said and done.

Dirty Dingo Accessory kit-
I bought the kit with the ac compressor. Because of the exhaust manifold setup I was using I couldn't keep the factory compressor in the factory location. And I thought the alternator might hit the hood using the oem truck brackets. I wish I would of tried the truck p/s and alt bracket first. I think they might have cleared. As well, with this years setup I am not running a ac compressor. So I could of saved some money just buying the the alt and p/s bracket. But probably will hook up ac in the future.

Obviously there is a ton of misc, such as fittings, lines, fluids, hardware, electrical etc. hard to price tag that stuff.
I already owned my own hptuners setup from tuning my jeep. So I didn't have to pay for that and I didn't have to pay for tuning itself as me and a buddy did all that. But if you had to put a price on it, i suppose $500 for tuning. That's what most shops in my area charge for a day of tuning on the dyno.
I had built my own stand alone harness for the engine/trans from the donor vehicle.
I bought a used transmission from the junkyard 4L80E for $500
HD2 shift kit $125
Edge Racing Torque Converter $700
I already owned my engine prior to even owning the marauder, see above post. But I guess if I had to put a price tag based on the market in my area. You can buy a dropout with harness, accessories, and ecm for $500-$1000 if your not looking for a deal. Obviously mine was a steal.
That's a basic rundown of what I spent to get my car to 11.4 @120mph and drive the car reliable and comfortable. My drive to/from work is 80 miles a day, and i drove the car regularly to/from work as well. And its tuned to run 93 octane.
My car had 225k on it and the drive line was tired. I weighed my options and decided to get the 4.6 and 4r70 reliably into the low 11's was gonna cost more then what I put into doing this swap, add in I am not familiar with ford tuning etc but am comfortable with LS stuff, I felt my decision was easy. I am not brand loyal, and all I was interested in was smiles and grins when I stand on it.
So I guess if you followed my path, didn't pay labor as i did it all myself. My setup was $7200. But what I feel is the most appealing aspect..my motor is a junkyard unit with a cam and springs only. I've picked up two extra long blocks already, one for $100 and another for couple hundred more. So if something happens its cheap to replace vs a long custom extensive engine build like the 4.6 requires. And god forbid you "pop" that 4.6 and its not rebuild-able.
Obviously I sold off the driveline parts that added money back into the build. I think I ended up around $800-1000 with selling old parts off. And a few of the higher dollar items on the list one could skip or do cheaper like the accessory brackets, turbo kit, trans stuff, loud valve, catch can setup etc.. I 'splurched" on a few items running up the cost.
I recently was contacted by someone off facebook in regards to LS swapping his panther. He wanted basic NA setup. I told him he had to supply the engine, trans, harness, ecm. And preferred he found a dbc "drive by cable" setup with a 4l80 2wd and return-less fuel rail. I would install everything, hook everything up minus a/c lines, and make it run and drive so all he had to do was bring it to a tuner. I guesstimated with labor he'd be about $2500. That included some extras like a aftermarket shifter.
This winter I added and changed somethings that defiantly would run the cost up quite a bit lol. Had the trans built solid, turbo pipes ceramic coated, new intake, the new holley terminator setup etc.
But I feel once I get the tune dialed in I feel very confident I will get into the tens. I ran out of time last year at the track with my fastest being 11.4 I hadn't found the point of breaking traction yet at launch so I know I can improve my 60'. My trans was weak last year with a long 2-3 shift (log data shows it was taking 4-5 seconds to complete that shift). I might drop to 3.55 gears from 4.10s as I felt I was crossing the line to high in rpm was loosing top end. And I was running 15-16psi and might up that and run e85, haven't decided on that yet.

"But what I feel is the most appealing aspect..my motor is a junkyard unit with a cam and springs only. I've picked up two extra long blocks already, one for $100 and another for couple hundred more. So if something happens its cheap to replace"
This year I switched from the stock ecu and hptuners to the new Holley Terminator MAx setup. So learning new software. Well made a big mistake/overlook. We had adjusted the ign timing, then started working on the target afr tables. I had to rescale my map table for afr and when I did that it gave me a popup window I misunderstood. So loaded the tune and went for a spin. What that popup was saying without actually saying it, was that it had also re scaled my timing tables. So I didn't catch the change in the timing. I went out to watch the afr, hit 11psi and noticed my timing was way off. But it was to late. Hit 36 degrees where I would normally hit around 10-12 degrees. Unfortunately damage was done and two pistons gave it up.
Messed up part was it really didnt act up. No smoke, didnt feel rough etc. I actually put about 50 miles on it including some 5-6psi hits on it before i started hearing the engine make noise.

Gonna be switching over to e85 this week, then hopefully the track. Try and get into the 10s. I think i can pretty easily.

Added e85, need to do some testing to see if my pump is enough to support it at peak. So far seems to be alright. But Warlboro has a new bigger pump, might just switch to it regardless. and tune as needed with that pump, if have to hold the tune back a little if its not 100% up to it. I dont want to run two pumps.

First clip was very early on this year. I hadnt got the trans setup yet and you can hear from the quick 1-2 shift.
Second clip, I believe is when I hurt the motor. I noticed at the tail end my timing was way to high. and right after I could smell oil. Blew the knock sensor seals and the frt crank seal. The crank seal didn't 100% blow out. The balancer kept it in just enough it couldn't completely blow out and dump oil everywhere.
Third was the other night, took a buddies FIL for a ride. New 295/40 toyos hook way better then the oem size coopers I had on last year. OEM size coopers never stood a chance when the boost came in.
Hoping to get to the track this week either Wednesday or Friday evening for test and tune.

Well visited the track last week. Wasn't as great of a performance as i had hoped for. Seems i cannot hold the car as well now to launch as i was last year. Anybody who upgraded to the mustang rotors and corvette calipers notice a difference? I'm pushing through the brakes before i can build boost to launch. Last year i could build 2-3psi and launch. Braking feels good coming to a stop and i have good firm pedal. I wonder if going to larger front calipers but not increasing master cylinder size is the cause.
First run, i went to stage and ended up pushing through the beam when i wasnt expecting so my time was terrible.
We turned up the boost, maxed out my controller with the 5psi wastegate spring. Looks like with that spring the controller maxes out at 17psi. What i didnt realize, is that when the controller maxes out and i hit that psi, it defaults to spring pressure. So i hit 17psi and the wastegate opened and didnt close till 5psi. So the car fell on its face during the pull. Which was fine, cause reading the logs its obvious i need more fuel pump at peak load as it was falling short.
You can hear at 48 seconds.
https://youtu.be/wRrTd5BoDrM
Didn't get another opportunity to run anyway. A guy blew his motor and oil misted 3/4 of the track.

Hopefully I'll be going back to the track this week, maybe I'll convince him to come take more pics lol.
Well, I ordered a new clamp for the intercooler boot at the turbo itself, wasn't a great clamp setup I had at that spot. Well 19 psi was all that clamp was good for lol. I ment to change it this morning. But forgot. Changed now.
Installed new fuel pumps. Dual walbro 450s in the tank. Didn't fit real well lol. Kinda a pain to install. But in and working. Between those and the 1500 cc injectors I have allz the fuel now. Turned it up to 19 psi on about 79% e. New turbo is working really well. Still working on launch control via the tune. Hopefully I'll get to the track Wednesday or Fridays test and tune and get a better run in then last time. I have no doubts I will lol, figured out all the boost cut issues I was having last time. Not only was my boost gauge/controller cutting me off but I didn't realize in the tune we had setup ignition cut at 18psi from when I was running pump 93.
I also added an external battery switch per the track tech guys. I installed a hitch on the car, and mounted the switch to a receiver. Pulled a trunk plug in the floor and ran wires via a quick disconnect through floor to switch for while I'm at the track, not at the track pull reciever and wires and reinstall trunk plug.

Been a slow few weeks. Got hurt at work and I've been off since the 14th with a back injury. Could hardly walk, couldn't stand etc. Finally feeling a little better, but far from right.
So I hooked a switch to engage a second rev limiter and timing retard. Still struggling with pushing through the brakes to launch. I had the switch on the shifter handle. So I had to release the switch and the brake pedal at the same time. That was alot harder then it seemed lol. I struggled through a few launches not timing the release the same.
The ecm needs to see a ground signal to activate the 2nd rev limit, so I wired a relay off the brake light switch to convert the + signal to a - to activate it through a push button. Apparently my LCM doesn't like that. Every time i hit the brake pedal my lights freak out and I can hear a relay in the LCM go nuts. So I'll have to revisit that.
Had to pull my trans out (prior to getting hurt) to replace the TC seal, it was dripping since install. Hopefully that's now taken care of.
I also got my class glass hood a few weeks ago, had a buddy come by yesterday to help install with my son. Fit decent. Need to install the aerocatches and get the dodge hood struts installed, but its atleast sitting in place.

I think I put 600-700 miles on the car over the course of 3 days. But wasn't without incident. I knew going in that good fuel wasn't easily accessible in the u.p.. 91 was the best 99% of places had. I figured I'd just take it real easy and be fine. Unfortunately my lack of self control got the better of me lol. On the return trip I passed a buddy in his military convoy, and on one of the passing lane stretches I rolled into while driving by his specific truck up to 120 and got some detonation. I developed a misfire about 150 miles from my stop. I drove about 20 miles to the next gas station and pulled off. Removed the plugs and found cyl 7 had the gapped closed. No obvious marks or damage to the strap. I bent the gap back open and reinstalled and made the 150 miles w/o issue. I got home and pulled that plug again and seemed fine. But I got my bore scope out and took a peak in the hole...

So off came the head. No damage to the cyl wall, and no damage to the head. I was amazed. I still had the last motor I ate earlier this year, so I robbed a piston from that and swapped it on this motors rod and reinstalled. All seems good now. Next time I better just detune the tune to be safer and not rely on self control which I clearly have none of lol. I had $80 into the repair mostly just fluids and one head gasket and head bolts.

Buddy did tag me in a ad on facebook for the same motor I run (04.5-06 5.3L). So I figured why not. $200 and another spare on a pallet. I'm still off work due to my back injury so I had nothing better to do with my day. SO I went and scooped it up. Currently I have 2 5.3s, another that I was told was a 5.3 but turned out to be a 4.8 (and has a bad cam lobe and lifter, that was supposed to be a good runner), and parts and pieces from two other 5.3's that were hurt or damaged. All less then $800 combined.

We verified timing on my motor as LS motors are known to have the tone rings slip and give false timing. After verifying mine we found mine was off 2*s. So we revisited the tune and made some adjustments and decided to be on the safe side we pulled a little more timing out just in case I have more self control issues lol.

I had to spend three months last year in Colorado Springs for work so I got a case of the stuff. It makes the exhaust smell funny and it isn't cheap. Not everyone can rebuild an engine out of parts lying around the garage. LOL I'd love to be able to do that again but it isn't in the cards for me. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Sigh.

That's my buddies jeep, it just got a 1 ton swap and full hyd steering. We took it out saturday to test it out, he ended up breaking a hyd fitting on the ram from hitting the frame. So I have to clearance the frame more and replace the fitting. This is both of ours on the trailer. We travel around the US together wheeling.

Took the car out to Gladwin Michigan for "thunder on the strip". They shut down the airport and run a 1/8 on the taxi runway. It was pretty cool, felt very nostalgic.
I met up with a guy from a local Facebook group for some races. He had a p71 that was pretty well gutted, 150 shot, drag slicks, 4.56s etc hes setup to run 1/8 pretty well. He took me to school at every light lol. I was trying to work on my 60' which I suffer at. Unfortunately they weren't tracking that on the time slips. But the first race I only launched at 1 psi, then the 2nd and 3rd around 4-6 and spun each time.

The one thing I can say I’m damn good at. I seem to always come in at .008 on the tree.
Reeled him in quick though!! Traction must have really sucked as I’ve seen the fender gap on just a 100 shot stock Marauder that I could have put my head in to fill the gap. I’ll have to see if I can find the still of my old Trilogy against Lowbuckmm’s 100 shot. The Trilogy fender gap is nothing compared to his.

Cool old pic.
Hoping to get back to the track. But I'm not sure how/when. Local track only has one test/tune this month due to events every other weekend. And I'll be in Canada with my jeep for that test tune. Hoping to go in October before they close. But I might not be the driver, I'll learn next week if I'll be having surgery on my back or not. So I maybe sidelined and may have to get a buddy to drive it and try and get it into the 10s like I hoped this year. Running out of time, this back **** has sidelined my entire summer. Had "grand plans" of trips with the car and jeep all summer that I had to cancel. Could be worse. Take what I can get.

Well I got my goal, went to the track last night. Launched at 11psi and cut a 1.56 60' , seemed to hold and not spin. Hit a peak of 18psi on the pull. But I was banging on the rev limiter top of 3rd at the end of the track. Track officials made a trip by me in the pits and gave me a warning for being to fast w/o a cage.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48844794028_d1f003aec4_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2hqfkxb)2019-10-04_11-18-27 (https://flic.kr/p/2hqfkxb) by Cheapthrillb2 (https://www.flickr.com/photos/92671503@N02/), on Flickr
So I made some adjustments in the tune, raised the rpm shift point of the 2-3, and raised the rev limiter a couple hundred to try and keep it off the rev limiter. Also bumped peak boost to 20-21psi. Unfortunately, my next pass the track didn't hold the launch and I spun. Got out of it, got back into it to the 1/8th then coasted to the 1/4, still ran a 14 sec lol. Then my fourth and final pass, I launched at 11 psi again and my yukon duragrip blew apart :(. Specifically the two smaller spiders gears broken in half.

I've used an OEM 31-spline Trac Loc and OEM 31 spline axles on both of my S/C'd Marauders with great success. It's a cheap and reliable alternative. You can usually find used 05 and up complete axle assemblies for $200.

My shafts are already 31 spline chromo. I want to get away from spider gears. Considering I shattered these launching at 11 psi with drag radials. Looking around and talking with alot of guys in similar power cars, alot have had great results with the true Trac.

Update, I purchased FRP 3.55's to replace the 4.10s. And A tru-trac to replace the duragrip. I've nothing but trouble trying to get the gears installed and set up correctly. Was doing it at home on jackstands, and with my wrecked back it was hell. I need to get the car out of the garage one way or another. So I just tossed them in sloppy after several hrs of messing around with them, to get it to move. That was a two weeks or so ago.
Yesterday I trailed it to a buddies who has a hoist to reset the gears, still, after hrs cannot get a good pattern. Ended up calling it a day yesterday after my back started to flare up. Can only take that carrier in and out so many times. Try again Friday, but have a buddy coming by who sets gears for a living. I've set up way more then my share over the years, idk whats going on with this setup. The FRP 4.10s damn near dropped in perfect first try.
I also pulled the 4l80 out and had it gone through to make sure there was no collateral damage from the locker failure (shock load), we found nothing damaged. That was a relief.

Don't have a lot of winter plans for the car, probably change up the exhaust again. Run it out the back to mimic stock, and replace the boost valve with a electric cutout instead. Most my attention will be out towards the jeep this winter.
I did pick up a new daily driver/commuter car ( I hate driving my truck in the salt). Drove from Grand Rapids MI to Cincinnati OH and bout a 2004 Town Car ultimate with 70K on it. Was looking for a dark blue ext and black interior but those are apparently like unicorns. Spent two months looking and only found two and both weren't in the best of shape. Settled for a silver birch ext and black interior

Unfortunately, I've acquired the marauders replacement. At some point this year I'll probably part it out. Purchased my step-dad car. He bought it from my step brother in 2001, he bought it in 98. It's just not practical to hold on to it. Wanna put the drivetrain & holley into the new car. I'd like to get back to the track one more time and actually push the car to its limit, 10.7 wasn't its limit, blew the Yukon before I got there and was more or less kicked off the track last October. And a dyno pull to see what numbers it's making.

Well since we weren't at #cleetusandcars today. Figured I'd still take part in that sweet smell of e85 and burnt rubber . Turned it down to 11 psi

Not really. One wheel peeler for now. Just a 327 4spd with an open 12b and 3.07 gears. More of a cruiser for now. But it'll get there.

Revisited the track. Didn't beat its best, but was right on it the first pass. Second pass I turned up the boost. First pass peaked at 18psi. But second pass it hit 21.5 and my boost cut was set at 21.5 so it started to cut ignition. You can hear it in the video. It really felt like it was in a good rip till then. Track was stupid busy. Only got three runs in the marauder and one run in the camaro.

Times tapered slower because I was messing with the tune and raising the boost... It wasn't going well between my boost controller and the terminator. Kept finding boost safety cuts

No, he did not buy mine. I did help with his via messenger to get certain things working with the builder of the car. But no, cleetus does not have mine. Although I wish he did lol.
