I think so too, even at 1 quart per 2,000 miles. My first new car, a 1978 Monte Carlo, would burn through a quart every 1,000 miles - GM stated that was 'acceptable'.
"And then there's the oil-consumption issue: Over 40,000 miles, we added 21.5 quarts of 5W-50. That's in addition to scheduled oil changes. It's the most we've ever added during a long-term test by a long shot. Ford released a supplement to the owner's manual stating that the engine might consume a quart every 500 miles under severe use. "Severe use" pretty accurately sums up our treatment of just about any car, but particularly one with an 8250-rpm redline. And we were lucky; internet forums are rife with horror stories of Shelbys consuming far more."

Yep....that's a LOT of oil being consumed....even with 'loose' forged pistons.
:hmmm: .....maybe 8,200 rpm has something to do with it!
OEMs pay a lot of attention to oil consumption when designing engines because it really hurts the emissions and is not good for the catalytic convertors.

This is interesting.
There's also an audible tick between 2000 and 3000 rpm as the forged pistons slap around in the cylinders.
I think my Marauder does this.

...wonder if they all do this , or if this particular engine is going to take a powder at 60,000. They don't all last 200,000! not back in the day, and not today. Wondering about the 180 degree crank, was a fad in the 1970's NASCAR then I think they gave up on it.
Still CANNOT beat my aunt's 1973 Duster Swinger, 318 V8...threw a rod 2.8 miles from the dealer.
Also can't beat my brother's 1977 Capri 2.3 liter, a quart every 50 miles.

My sister-in-law's brother had a 1985 SVO Mustang that he did not take care of....
He used to take it to Jiffy Lube because they offered 'free oil top off' service.
That SVO burned SO much oil that he would stop in to Jiffy Lube every other day!
They finally told him : No More!.. take a hike!!

Ford built a crappy engine. One that allows excessive amounts of oil in the combustion chamber. Bet the exhaust system never rusts.

Wouldn't say that...and I'll gladly take a 5.2 Voodoo in a heartbeat!
If you don't break them in right....they'll burn oil like a diesel.
Been that way for about 100 years.

The 15+ styling is really growing on me. The GT350 is a cool car, but that oil consumption is unacceptable, no way I would be ok with that.

As a cute skinny guy, I’ve never liked them! At the Chicago Marauderville I had to wedge things on both sides of me while on the autoX track! [emoji6]
It was funny watching my three kids rolling on top of each other thru the turns though.. [emoji1303]

True, the Impala SS seats are worse than MM for this, they have a 25% wider lower seat cushion to slide all over!
Both cars are definitely not Recaros!

My Girlfriend's 1972 VW Beetle with over 200,000 miles didn't burn that much oil.

My cousin has a GT350, the Recaros are a little tight for a fat guy, but the car is a blast to drive and ride in. The sound of the voodoo engine at high rpm’s is unbelievable!!!

I've actually been investigating retro-fitting 2015 mustang seats into the Marauder. Much more comfy than the Marauder seats which sit crazy high IMO.

I agree 100% with Mr. Joe Walsh,
and I would like to add this 5.2 voodoo is my favorite engine yet, after im done the merc build I have my sights set on a voodoo powered something...
absolutly in love with the gt350 and the voodoo 5.2
I would love to get ahold of a flat plane crank for a 4.6 for that matter.... anyone know anything about it?

I've actually been investigating retro-fitting 2015 mustang seats into the Marauder. Much more comfy than the Marauder seats which sit crazy high IMO.
Interested to see what you come up with. I have a moonroof and am finding that I appreciate it less and less because of the lost headroom.

Don't the seats come with the voodoo engine?
I had an 86 country squire with 140k that after 100k used a quart every 500-750 miles. When that car was hit, I took the engine out, mothballed it, and the short block eventually made it into my mustang. Still had the cross hatching and still uses oil.
I think Acura says that a quart every 300 miles is acceptable.
I wouldn't trust a new engine that used that much, but I also wouldn't turn down a free one. I wonder what the oil analysis would reveal if anything?

High RPM/high load engines need thicker oil for the oil film strength & anti sheer properties on the bearings.
I had always heard that to make a very wide viscosity range motor oil (5w-50) requires a LOT of friction modifiers in the additive package.
Thus these 'wide range' oils break down quicker than a typical 5w-30 or 15w-50.
You have to change them more often and they are more expensive.

Now, back to our discussion about oil burning, 8,250 rpm leather seat covers.
I am buying a new 2019 GT 350. Maybe an R version but I can say this for certain- It is the best car on the market for under 100 K. :flamer:

Ford has replaced several GT350 engines due to high oil consumption but so far has not offered an explanation......Lotsa chatter about it SVTPerformance.com!!
