View Full Version : This crazy weather!

This is awfully strange weather even for Chicago! Here we are used to rapid weather change and don’t think twice normally.
Tucked under, behind, and in front of my work van passenger seat (and even a small box in the cargo area) you will find enough sweatshirts, Carharts, bibs, extra boots, winter boots, water boots, rain suit, hats, hand warmers, and about a billion gloves as I’m skinny and I hate being cold! Add to that, I’m not into driving to work and going home early.
So once again, we are used to rapid weather change and anyone who works outside knows the routine of how to best keep dry and warm..
BUT WTF? 2-4”s of white devil coke today and 35* and 69* on Tuesday?? We’ve already seen a 75* day last week! As I recall I took the bike out in a short sleeve shirt after work. Is this the beginning of Armageddon?
What is everyone else seeing lately?

Same stuff here. Mother Nature showing us who's boss, winter not wanting to let go with out a fight. Couple weeks of mixed season weather as it transitions from winter to spring. Same stuff with varying degree every year for pretty much all my life in northern IL and southern WI. Just seems worse now being immersed in it with emotions running hot wanting nice weather. "Winter weary" it's called and you feel it worse and worse as you get older...

yep, its sticking on the roads closer to the lake - crazy. Starting to damage trees around here with the weight of the wet snow. Older I get, the less like winter

No more snow here but did have some temperature swings. Absolutely poured rain the other night. Really glad it wasn't snow.
Nature's other evil is already out and about. BUGS! Evil little basterds. Forgot what it's like when I'm welding something and a creature flies in my effing ear.

Yea! Played golf last three weekends in shorts, and am sunburned from yesterday (shot 81 and lipped out 3 putts and missed three more that I should have dropped).
The light cloud cover came in at 4pm today... and it is 55 degrees cold!

And after I wrote the above, it had the unmitigated audacity to sprinkle on my spotless Red Sled!
I must now go wipe it down and dry it off!

Whether you believe the scientists when they discuss Climate Change, we are witnessing the effects first hand. In Upstate New York, I remember for over forty years that we would have steady cold weather until March or April, then a Spring and then of course Summer. About five years ago, I witnessed flowers trying to grow in February. It was at that point, I realized something with the seasons was changing. Whether the change is man-made or simply part of Earth's natural cycles (ice ages, then warmer times), the truth is that it is changing.

My sister and brother-in-law live in Wheaton and they texted pictures of 5 - 6 inches of snow covering their daffodils.

We've got some wild temperature changes here in Europe too, last week we still had snow on the ground at 25* and this week feels like the middle of summer hitting nearly 85*.

I've lived in the area of SE WI/NE IL for 55 years and can remember many April/May blizzards...
If you don't like the weather here, wait 10 minutes, it'll change.
Mother Nature giving us ! more whack before she lets Father Winter exit the stage - she's the boss.
Seriously sucks though... :shake:

Ouch!
Gonna be 82 today, slight cool breeze from the Delta.
Up early, sons HPP at Ford for $49.00 Motorcraft oil change, waxed the Red Sled, and it is only 9:19 AM.
Having second cup of coffee on back patioi barefoot, in shorts and tee. It is 68 and with the refreshing breeze it is a little chili. My piggies are cold... Think I will go get some socks!

The weather is crazy......
Last fall. here in north Jersey, the cooler temps took so long to arrive that my town had to extend it's leaf pick-up program. In Nov/Dec, it was too warm to snow, so we got bombed with rain (thank goodness).
This past winter, we had two really cold spells, but they were short-lived. I used my snow-blower once all season, but I did shovel a few times (accumulation wasn't much).
On a somewhat related note, the US Army Corps of Engineers is working on a report outlining alternatives to protecting NY City and NJ from floods caused by severe storms (hurricane Sandy) and rising sea waters.
As a guy brought up in the 50's living atop the Palisades Cliffs looking down on the Hudson, and spending his last ten years working for a firm located on the Hudson waterfront in NJ, that's more than a bit concerning.
