Texas Poised To Ban All Red Light Cameras

The oft-abused tool is used more to raise revenue than to protect public safety.

If Texas cities want to fine drivers into the poor house, they're going to have to do it the old-fashioned way—with actual law enforcement officers. A bill (https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/86R/billtext/pdf/HB01631F.pdf#navpanes=0) to ban red light cameras has passed the Texas Legislature (https://www.dallasnews.com/news/texas-legislature/2019/05/17/bill-ban-red-light-cameras-heads-one-step-becoming-law) and is heading to Gov. Greg Abbott's desk. He's expected to sign it.

It's about time. these stupid cameras give you ticket even when you don't run the red light. I've had 2. glad to see something getting done about it.

I’ve luckily only been issued one once, of course on a beautiful night I decided to just go for a cruise..

I wasn’t familiar with the intersection and never noticed the “no right turn on red” sign. That is really my only beef. There is so many signs to read anymore, at least around here in the Chicago area and I imagine most others anymore, that the truly unnecessary ones (such as this) only distract you from actually driving with enough concentration as to not hit someone...

Other than that I feel it was a deserved ticket unfortunately. There was three images that portrayed my car stopped at the red light, halfway into my turn showing a red light, and fully turned into the intersection still showing the red light. I believe they even had a glimpse of the sign in the images. All clear as can be. They also claim that any actual tickets issued are supposedly viewed and written by an actual officer of the law and not a regular Joe. Mine was signed with his badge number included.

So my fault, but in reality no difference than getting caught first hand and more than enough evidence to not bother fighting it LOL.

What worries me is if you simply don’t see the signs for let’s say a couple of weeks?? [emoji43]

Our state banned them several years ago. What a scam they were!
