GTO not selling well... GM may up HP numbers

Definately Cavalieresque in the photo and the front end is too much like Grand am/prix.
My observation also --- looks too much like other Pontiacs of the Gran Prix or Grand Am mold. Not distinctive enough in appearance to warrant the extra bucks. Selling on track for 7,500 this year (about 600-650 per month) according to the article. That means there should be some "deep discounts" on the 1,000 that will be left over from the 2004 production run.

I always wonder if Pontiac made a 2005 model, an exact replica of a 1966 or 1967 GTO......... how well it would sell. I would stand in line for 3 weeks to order one, and I would be willing to wait 6 months for delivery.

The same is true of all the old cars..... 1969 Charger R/T, 1970 Charger R/T, 1969 Trans Am, 1969 Z-28, the old Hemi Cudas, the Superbird, 1970 Chevelle SS 454, etc.......

I wonder what prevents just one manufacturer from trying something like this and seeing how well sales work out?

In my opinion, the same is true of the 2003 and 2004 Marauder. If Mercury had kept the MSRP around $29,000 to $30,000 they would have sold like hotcakes. As it turned out, Mercury and dealers ended up discounting them to $27,000 and $28,000 just to sell them and clear the lots.

thats what a lot of people thought.
then it was confirmed by steve babcock himself.
he wanted the car under 30k...aka $29,995
but the bean coutners jacked it to $35,000

so no debating that but with the gto i do think its a bit pricey and dont forget dealer markups....
it was out of my price range but the marauder wasn't. according to the demographics that should be the oppisite("younger folks want the sports coupe! old folks want the 4 door luxobarge!") but i couldn't afford the gto...i could afford a marauder. how odd.

p.s. i dont want a gto, just making a point....assuming there is one in that rambling mess.

I went to see one last night... Curiosity got the best of me...

Definitely small (relative to the Marauder)... definititely reminds me of a cavalier

Dealer had a "$4,000" wheel tire package installed to "upgrade" to 18" and chrome...

Probably real fast... but not for some one (like me) with 4 other family members to cart around. (Does anyone else consider a Marauder a family car? :) )

I was talking to my local FORD dealer owner the other day while they replaced passenger door power window stuff. He's not getting a GT40 now. According to him, FORD did a lottery among dealers to see who would get one and who wouldn't. They don't have enough to go around I guess.

When I speak of Pontiac making an exact duplicate of the 1966 or 1967 GTO I would be willing to pay the inflated equivalent of what they cost back then. But certainly not $150,000, true!

Jeez, what is it with passenger door power window motors? Mine went south and had to be replaced, too.
