03 maurader spider gears?

Hi everyone...I cant seem to get my hands on a new set of spider gears. I've had Ford and my local auto parts stores send me gears but they are all wrong. Ford tells me they no longer carry the 28 spline gears for the maurader. I was under the impression that a 8.8 and its replacement parts where all the same. but they tell me that the marauder is very different from a mustang 8.8 or pickup truck 8.8. I know splines could be 28 or 31 but mine has 28.
The gears everyone sends me are larger in diameter and they have a bevel edge and a shorter profile. My planitaries are a straight cut edge and taller. I'm having a hard time uploading pics of my original gears.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Yukon P-28 kit eBay should work, I need them also.


You have a LSD (or posi) differential and most of them are open carriers on other cars. 1 wheel peel.

The last kit I was told would be perfect are the Yukon #16015.
The Yukon # 39015 where wrong. I have clutch packs so I'm guessing its lsd? It does have the S clip that holds tension on the gears.

True but every set of gears I've gotten look like those gears with the beveled edge. Hopefully they workout but they are 4 days out. My gears look just like the gears out of a 03 04 IRS cobra but 28 spline

why not just get 31 spline spider gears and axles and reuse the stock carrier?

Also add the larger S spring. Easy peasy swap, I’ve done a few with cheap perfect used axles sent directly to my door.

The plus side to this is not having to set up a new diff. With a lift you could be back on the road in thirty minutes.

Ford discontinued 28 spline spider gear kits a few years ago. Even if you find the part number on your kit in storage, you wont be able to buy a new kit from Ford... unless you scour ebay and similar places for old stock being sold off. Green sales company comes to mind.

Those gears are beveled on there edge. Mine are straight cut. I wish I could upload a pic but I keep getting error message.

Cars been on a lift for 10 days waiting for correct parts. That may he what I end up doing but I shouldn't have to. I dont understand why getting spider gears for this car has been such a struggle.

Mine is setup with 28 spline built into the planetary gears not the carrier. With clutch packs and shims behind the planetary gears. So I could do 31 spline axles with 31 spline gears.

News to me the gears are interchangeable. Something new every day. That saves setup on a new carrier if changing to 31 spline as TurboV6Bryan suggested.

No problem...I was under the impression that all 8.8 rear ends were the same. I'm learning something new with this one for sure.

Thank you for the info...i ended up putting the car back togeather to get it off the lift. I will look into a new carrier setup. Any recommendations as to what brand?

Ebay has a few. This is the same part # I have.

I just ordered this kit from My dealer, they say yes it's for the Limited Slip Differential. Hopefully they are correct and it fits the Marauder carrier.

I've got a set from summit that look exactly like what I have coming in a couple days. Let me know how yours turn out and i will do the same. If mine dont fit I will have to do a full carrier replacement.

Yeah but a fox body carrier is also different from, say, a 99-04 new edge GT carrier. IIRC the fox body carriers are/were popular because you could wedge another clutch pack in there due to the design of the carrier.

I do see looking up the PN that it only shows 03/04 marauder, that is really strange. Of all the things Ford invested money into for this car, why would this car need its own 28 spline diff?

the L/S for a P71 of the same year (XW7Z-4204-BB) shows a year range of 84 to 2009 including box panthers, LTDs and Aerostars.

If your car has 270,000 miles on it, it would probably be cheaper and quicker for you to find a low mile complete 3.55 locking rear out of a 06+ police car. At that many miles, I can’t see the axles or ring and pinion gears being in great shape. Swap the entire rear and be done.

Ring and pinion look great. Replaced axles and bearings along with clutch packs. Thats how I found the trashed spider gears. Waiting on spider gears now.

Any repairs without going to an Eaton (no clutch pack) differential is a waste of time and money. An Eaton Truetrac is probably best, although an Eaton Detroit locker is OK, too.

Clutch pack diffs are a wear item - a Truetrac or Detroit Locker will never wear out or break (even a modified Marauder, with less than 750(?) horsepower, and sticky tires. The 31 spline axle shafts will break first)!

No, I have a pretty bad ass parts guy at my local dealer... Jerry was here with me when we discovered nothing is the same as any other 8.8 rear... The gears in a Marauder diff are different thicknesses than the other carriers...

Ok guys an update...got a complete used carrier from mustangeddie . The carrier and gears are from a 98-04 mustang. Everything works perfect as it should. I did rebuild the clutch packs but the ones that came with the used carrier looked ok so they will be spares for the future.
Thanks again to everyone who helped me get this figured out. I would have never guessed the marauder had a marauder specific carrier and gears. But I've definitely learned something new about my car AKA the million dollar marauder as my coworkers call it lol.

You have to buy the mustang carrier. They do not make spider gears for the marauder not even aftermarket. Why the marauder has specific carrier is beyond me.

The carrier I got from mustangeddie had a set of gears. It was a used unit I just replaced the clutches. I used the Yukon clutches from summit racing.

Will not work...been there done that. Ford told me all spider gears have been out of production. No other gear that I've found or Ford will fit the marauder. For some reason its carrier is specific to that vehicle only. I went round and round with Ford and the auto part stores. The gears are entirely shaped different.

New axles and seals and axle bearings. I Used the used spider gears carrier and bearings on carrier. Replaced clutches and shims. Had to get the car off the lift so time was a issue. Will be replacing gears and bearings soon.
