A bit of a history lesson, for me anyway. Thinking Ford's first in-house automatic transmission was introduced in 1949? Nope, Ford sourced the GM 4 speed Hydramatic transmission for the Lincoln only from 1949-1954. Originally installed behind the 5.5L flathead V8 and later behind the 5.2L OHV V8.

Lincoln switched over to the in-house Turbo Drive transmission for 1955. Ford introduced the in-house Ford-O-Matic and Merc-O-Matic transmissions for 1951 models.
