My oh my! Technology is anything that wasn't around when you were born.

The Mustang SVOs are the same age as my daughter. A big fan of both. Came across the following Youtube vid today and had to see how the SVO stacks up to my 33 year newer Ranger Ecoboost. Both are 2.3L turbocharged motors but that's where the similarities end.

The new Ecoboost will react positively to 93 octane fuel and the Owner's Manual recommends 93 for towing. I've consistently used 90 E0 as it's readily available.

Just over 4,000 miles on the odometer since the purchase in May, 2019. Quite pleased with the performance and it's noticeably improving in increments as I gather the miles. What has gotten my attention is the very positive results to tuning for the Ecoboost Ranger.

Summary: SVO on 93 pump gas and no performance mods: 170 RWHP and 250 RWT. (LMR.com (http://LMR.com))

I gathered the Ranger info from a number of sources/tuners.

Stock. 87 E10: 236 RWHP and 281 RWT. 7.3 seconds to 60mph. Figures from an early road test and dyno run.

Tuner One: (Palm Beach Dyno) Ranger has oversized tires and wheels - non-stock.

aFe Charge Pipe with 87 E10: 255 RWHP and 299 RWT. 7.2 seconds to 60mph.

93 tune and aFe Charge Pipe and 93 E10: 295 RWHP and 373 RWT. 5.8 seconds to 60mph.

Tune tweak and VP Octane Booster (estimated) 325 RWHP and 393 RWT. Future installment.

This tuner stated he would be working on an E85 tune, add a higher flow fuel pump. Future installment.

Tuner Two: (5 Star Tuning)

Base run using 93 E10: 257 RWHP and 283 RWT. 7.5 seconds to 60mph.

93 tune using 93 E10 - no mods: 312 RWHP and 374 RWT. 5.5 seconds to 60mph.

Lots of potential here. 5 Star is in Florence, SC so it's a no brainer for me. A catch can is the only mod on my list at present.

They didn't have a fan blowing across the SVO's intercooler in that dyno video....probably would've had higher numbers if they had.

BTW: How do you like the 10 speed auto in your new Ranger?
What kind of gas mileage do you get City/Highway?

I'm debating between buying a new 2WD Ranger, waiting for the 2021 redesigned Ranger and an STX 2WD F150.
The F150 is just too big for what I need in a pick-up truck...plus the prices are insane on full sized trucks!!

Oh goodness, the 10R80 is a marvel. It shifts alot but I barely notice it. Favors the higher ratios, probably for fuel economy standards but it readily downshifts according to throttle input. With three large adults in Ranger last week entering I-85 south, the acceleration caught everyone off guard as I entered traffic. I suspect that once 'break in' is over there will be a substantial improvement. 21-22mpg average per tank according to the panel readout for urban/mixed city driving and 26mpg on my Florida trip back in January (Interstate Hwy, cruise set at 70) - 90E0 the entire trip as this is what is most widely available in Jacksonville. Prices? Left over 2019s are going for deep discounts, even the 2020s are heavily discounted - I'm seeing local discounts in the $3k-$9k range and I'm sure cash will talk.

OOF!....that 2021 in the spy photo looks hideous!
What can't FORD (or anyone else) design a decent looking front end on a pickup!?
I guess I'll start looking at deals for a 2020 Ranger.

Having rented an Expedition Max and super crew 150 both with 10spds I HATED them! One was brand new, the other damn near new. Always shifting and both had small lags in trying to figure out the downshifts every single time. Just. Plain. Annoyingly. Stupid.

At least in larger vehicles.

I’ve had 5 SVOs. They’re great cars. Fun.

Had a 86 jalapeno Red SVO I restored years ago and loved that car. Have had a few and been thinking about another lol. Recently had a crew cab ranger for a loaner while the wifes 18 eco boost mustang was in the dealer. Was impressed and liked it a lot. Didn't want to give it back. Had plenty of room for me and had plenty of get up. My only hang up on them is the pricing. For what they go for here I can get into a crew cab f150.

You can pick this one up for only $29,000.....maybe a wee bit high for a used Foxbody, even if it is an SVO.
BTW: There is a reason that only 4 Sage Green SVOs were made....because it is an UGLY color.
Who wants an Army green Mustang!!??
