View Full Version : TAF & Donny are the BEST!

Todd & Donny deserve the awards for hospitality and support of fellow members. The flight from Iowa to Atlanta sucked but when we got to the baggage check, there was Donny holding a paper with TooManyFords on it. That's service with a smile!
We hopped in one hopped up Marauder and then headed over to Team Ford in, Marietta . OMFG!! I've never been to such a performance minded Ford dealership anywhere! Not that there might be others, this one was cool! Saleens, and SVT's and Blowers, oh my! Two Dynos and more mustangs with slicks on them and even a special Marauder (but we're not supposed to talk about it so I won't)
Todd gave me the full tour and then Donny took us up to Anderson, SC where this "eBay" prize waited. But, again to my surprise, Anderson is also the home of Metco! We popped in there to see the two big CNC machines turning out billets of pure joy. Again, a very impressive and courteous host there at Metco showed us everything and we chatted about MV II and the upcoming watts link.
But, the real surprise was the eBay truck. I think Donny summed it up best by saying, "Good luck!" My god, this truck was, well, almost all there! No radio, no hood release, the homemade 3" body lift almost pushed through the cab, the hole in the floor, the broken brake lights, ... well you get the idea.
Todd hooked me up with Steve at Team Ford who said he could do the tranny for me Tuesday morning (the owner said it slipped in second).
But after 5 minutes on the road two things were immediately apparent;
1. The tranny was fine and shifted ok, and
2. If we added the additional trip back to Atlanta that we might not make it home.
So, we opted to just use Streets & Trips to get is the shortest path back. Somewhere in some town in NC, we stopped get a couple gas tank caps (there were none in either neck) and a wiper blade cause one was missing. I also noticed that the turn signals did not blink so I figured a couple 1157's and we'd be good to go. So Todd, please extend my apologies to Steve for not being able to make the 9am appointment.
Nope!
about $50 bucks later and 1 Volt/Ohm meter, some tools, a pack of fused, a new Brake Switch, two new wipers and we now have brake lights and can safely go down the road! It runs like *****, but I'm sure the Holley is shot and it probably needs a tuneup real bad. However I'm now prepared to take this the distance.
Enough rambling... I just want to close and say what a first-rate class-act you Southern MM'ers are.
You are ALL welcome up in Iowa ANYTIME!!!
Cheers!
John

You should see the WAAAAY cool Ford Racing clock. And I was told that in the new shipment is a clock that looks like a rotor and caliper for a Mustang GT-R.
Then there's the NHRA high tops....

And if anyone's looking for an SVO differential girdle (meaning it says SVO in raised letters, not Ford Racing engraved on the place) I know where one is for the having.
And a couple nice SVT hats. Glenn.

This was the first time I picked somebody up at the airport since 9-11. Unless you are meeting a child, you can't go down to the gate. They make you wait for passengers at the baggage claim area. That's great, but what if the person you're picking up hasn't checked baggage.... and has never met you before? So, I stand around with "TooManyFords" scribbled on a piece of paper, and EVERYBODY stopped to read it, then gave me a look like I was some kind of Ford Hater or just a garden variety nut case.
When we were looking for the place (WAAAAAYY out in the boonies), I told John that if we pulled up and the guy was sitting in a rocking chair on the porch pickin a banjo, the he was >on his own<
I got to hand it to John and his son, though. I wouldn't have tried to drive this beast to the end of the driveway, and town, hahahahah! THEY WERE DRIVING IT TO IOWA:eek:
His son told me, as we were saying our farewells, not to worry, this one wasn't nearly as decrepit as the Galaxie they drove home that burst into flames....
Yes, my friend, Good Luck and safe trip.

Believe it or not, I do these things with Aaron to build lasting memories for him that he can pass on to his kids some day. And let me tell you, I will never be more proud as a father and a friend to my son when we're sitting around and "grandpa" has to try to explain the wonderful trips across America we took just to pick up junk cars to restore.
And here I sit in Asherville,NC at the Holiday Inn getting ready to venture out into the wild. We've decided to break this trip into two stops with the second one around Indy today.
I'll check back in tonight to give "y'all" and update!

He meant Rockville, VA just NW of Richmond (gotta look hard to see it). I assumed Rockville, MD at first also --- natural for us Northern Virginians.
