Since I got my Marauder used back in 2006, thought I would ask this question as it occasionally comes to mind especially when the topic of valet keys comes up.

So I was given two keys with the car in early 2006. One with the waterfall mercury logo and one kind of generic with a subdued Ford logo. Was the subdued Ford logo key the original second key? They function identically.

So the valet key was just an option, correct?

When I got my Marauder in June 2002, I got two pushbutton remotes w/keys and one Valet Key.

I haven't seen a valet key for sale in a long time. They look like the regular key, except they're gray. The metal part is thicker, so when it is cut it fits the ignition and door but not the trunk nor the trunk release button keyhole on the drivers door.
I found a different kind of Mercury valet key, it had the waterfall emblem molded in to it, but it was shaped like a F150 key with the keyring hole instead of the rectangular hole. It can be cut but the chip will not program. I found a work-around by getting some aftermarket 80-bit chip keys, taking the chip out of the one with an oval hole and swapping it for an 80-bit chip. Then it programmed just fine.

I've bought two brand new Marauders from dealers and got the same, two remotes, two regular keys, one valet key. Most of the used Marauders I've bought had the valet key missing.

Regular keys and remotes are on ebay all the time, very rarely do I see a valet key. Then surprise!
