Motor Trend, August 2004 issue has an article about a 2004 Ford Racing Focus RS8 (European RS Focus, I think) going head to head with a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo. Pretty even match-up.

The Focus has a 5.0 liter, 500 HP (450 net at 7,000 rpms) powerplant. Time in the 1/4 mile was 12.7@113.7 mph for the Focus vs. 12.5@116.7 mph for the Lamborghini. The Focus was ahead until about 60 mph then the Gallardo slowly pulled ahead. The Focus did better in braking, figure 8, 600 foot slalom, and race track.

Article starts on page 60 of the current MT issue.

Mods to the Focus added some $74,000 to the base $31,000 (total of $105,000). The Lamborghini was $187,959 as tested.

Advantage --- Frankenfocus !!!!

In a few years that might be my next driver. Focus - or some other cheapo that handles well with room under the hood, gut it, and make the ultimate sleeper.

12.5 @ 166?

Either the time is off or the mph is...

Cars turning 12's are usually running 100-120mph....just an estimate though.

Yeah, that's good because that Lamborghini is all about cornering...not straight-line speed.

I like the Focus SVT...looks like a junebug but what the hay.

FiveO,
Nice catch. Should have been 12.5@116.7 mph for the Lamborghini. Fat fingers strike again. I gotta learn to proof better. Corrected in the original post.

12.5 @ 166 could be correct....if the lambo stayed at the starting line for like 4 seconds :)

No problem on the fat fingers...happens to me all the time.
