Just got a letter from Nationwide insurance. They no longer use OEM parts without uping your rate. I checked with State Farm, the agent said it was at their discreation weither to use them or not. Still waiting to hear from Alfa
Check with your insurance agents.

I recently had my 300A in the body shop, taking care of some minor hail damage, and a minor front end ding, requiring the bumper cover to be replaced. This was mentioned in a previous post. When I bought the car, my insurance company ( at the time ) was Geico. I have since been dropped by them as I had 2 claims in 6 years (0 tickets). When I purchased it, in 8/02 the insurance companies didn't have Marauder listed, only the Gran Marque. So I got listed as a Gran Marque. Geico claims that I was " scaming them " by not telling them it was a Marauder ! :mad2: The model is listed in your VIN as a Marauder, but I have yet to convince my former insurance company what happened......thus, I now have way too high insurance premiums. Be sure to check with your agent as to how your car is listed, or you too may find that you have a problem that you didn't know existed.
On body parts........what was to be a 2 day job at the body shop turned into a 7 day run, with the car mainly sitting, waiting on the bumper cover. I got it finally, and noticed on the invoice that it was a refurbished cover ! Now I am having to take my Marauder back to get it fixed correctly.........watch those body shops, check your policy :fire:

In Texas they can not tell you what parts to use. It's entirely up to the insured whether he accepts OEM parts or anything else.
As for the VIN, I agree with Rangero, they've had your VIN from day one, it's never changed. They marked it as a GM, it's their problem.

Couple of thoughts about insurance, I have Allstate and the difference in premium is $60 a year between my 95 CrownVic and Marauder ( $714 vs $774 ) that seems to me to be more about the replacement value of the cars than any inherent difference in premium based on car category.
My policy describes the MM. as Mercury Marauder and of course they have the VIN # which classifies the car as a GRAND MARQUIS. Every single invoice from my Ford dealer sinced I purchased the car describes my car as a GRAND MARQUIS, when I questioned the service writer about this he said that the vin # is encoded as a Marquis by Mercury and "that's the way it is".
So it seems to me that the only SCAM is the one being perpetrated by Geico.

Yup. Geiko is scamming you. From day 1, my dealer listed the MM as a GM, but vehicle registries and my insurance company both list it as a Marauder.
Like in Texas, the insurance company has no say as to where I take my car to be repaired in the event of an accident, not what type of parts will be used on it. It's up to me, and they just pay the bill.
My 92 CV is $12 a year less in insurance than my MM. Go figure.

You all are correct, I am the one getting scammed.....BUT in Texas, according to the Tx Insurance Board, who I wrote as soon as all this started, has told me that insurance companies set their own rates and set their own policy on who they will insure or not!
No matter how it goes, I am still having to pay exrta high premiums, and there is no way to do a thing about it.......legally.

....BUT in Texas, according to the Tx Insurance Board, who I wrote as soon as all this started, has told me that insurance companies set their own rates and set their own policy on who they will insure or not Yeap, same her in Fla. Allstate decided one day that I was persona non grata as far as HOMEOWNERS insurance goes, my sin you ask ??? I live on Florida's Gulf Coast, something about hurricanes...they dropped over 100,000 policies along Florida's coast.
I have Geico & my card reads marauder however my title says "Grand Marquis Marauder 4DR". I switched to Geico at the end of last year. My old company listed it as Grand Marquis".
The insurance companies are the biggest scams going. The fact is unless you total your car you're better off paying for the damage yourself than letting the insurance do its job. Because for the amount your rates will go up you'll end up paying for it & more within a couple of years. One note, I live in Philadelphia and we have some of the highest rates in the country. I think my policy with Geico is something like $3,500++ and that is less than I was paying with my previous company which was charging me over $4k a year.
My wife & I are both in our 30's & have had perfect driving records for close to years. I had get a report from the Pennsylvania DMV, for my restaurants liquor license, and it was completely clean. No tickets, No claims yet I'm still paying out the kazzoo for insurance that I can't even use.
Not that everyone out there doesn't have their own problems and if I were you I would feel the same way too but I would give my right testicle to pay what some of you guys pay for insurance.

When I had my accident damage repaired last year I specified only OEM parts were to be used and Metropolitan didn't question it at all. They've been pretty good to deal with, although two recent tickets have upped my insurance premiums a bit. I'm paying almost $800 every 6 months. :(

I look at this way, The insurance Companys need us, you have the legal right ,If you want OEM parts and they aren't willing to give them too you ,too pay the difference between the aftermarket parts and the OEM ( if you have a accident or loss) and fix it the way you want. It's your car and you have the legal right too do so.

I agree with the "scamming " statement being BS. I've owned 5 new cars over the years and everytime I added a new car to my policy, my insurance company required a copy of the window sticker . I'm in NJ , not sure how other states handle that matter. If they required a copy of the window sticker, there is no excuse on their part.
I have also heard that the 04 MM has a specific vin ,whereas the 03 MM doesn't. My insurance symbol is still a 14 for my 04 which is the same as the 03.
either way I think Insurance companies are a rip

Unfortunately insurance is a necessary evil. :alone:

Just thought I'd mention something. I work for Nationwide and I know with us if you don't get the optional Oem endorsement than you may get aftermarket parts. But the nice thing is that the Oem only costs like 15 dollars more per six months. I have it on all my cars. Don't get me started on Geico but that's b.s. You give them your vin# and what they call it is their problem. You did nothing wrong.

I have had the same insurance company for the past 32 years -- USAA based in San Antonio, TX. Never had a problem. Great service and decent rates.
However, when I lived on Long Island, NY ('78-'80), I had to have 3 photos taken of my car to document its condition from the front, side, and oblique views. Not sure if they still require that in NY; but apparently there was a problem with folks registering "hangar queens" then filing fraudulent claims for damages. Have never had to do this photo bit anywhere else including twice overseas.

USAA is the best Ins. Co. According to my Allstate broker. My son has them for his auto Ins. They used to deal with only officers in the armed forces. I understand their ins. is available to the public at a different rate.

After hearing from several Ins co. I called my Nationwide agent, It only amounted to an additional $11 every 6 months, still below all the other companys. They wouldn't let me change my F150 over because it's over 9 years old. Just as well, an OEM finder would probally total it anyway

The insurance is also available to children of veterans. That's how I get to use them. And they actually have car people on the other end of the phone. Talked to a guy for like 1/2 hour about cars the last time I was updating my policy.
