View Full Version : 3 yr old + metal broom = !@#*
My lovely, precious, wonderful, 3 1/2 year old daughter so desperately wanted to help out her dad and wash his car for him. She unfortuantely decided that she needed to use a metal broom to reach the hood and put two foot long scratches in it.
I spent a half hour tyring to buff them out with some success, and it looks like I may be able to eventually get them out on my own. As mad as I was for about 5 seconds when I yelled at her, no one can believe how badly I still feel 3 days later for yelling at her. She, on the other hand, hoepfully has forgotten all about it. Even though its raining today, we're going to wash the cars together when I get hom from work and spend some time together. Hopefully she'll also learn the difference between a soft cloth and a metal broom.

Yeah, man - I fell your pain. Being the Dad of kids 14, 10 and 8 - I can tell you, at that age they forget that sort of thing pretty quickly. It can eat at you for months, though. Got to just let it go and reassure her that she's Daddy's little girl.
Sounds like you have just the plan for that.

I can believe it...Chase is almost four and chatters non-stop from the time he wakes up until the time he goes to sleep- I'm not as patient as I should be the majority of the time...Cut yourself some slack, Marc. Parenting (and step-parenting) is a learning process. You're gonna make some mistakes and all you can hope for is that you learn from them. Kids are incredibly forgiving and have the grudge holding capacity of a goldfish. When it comes to car washing, I've assigned him the very specific task of rinsing- he loves to work the sprayer and it is a no contact assignment. Good luck!

When I lived up there, I accidently took out the running hose from it's holder at a self service car wash. It flew around like crazy. When it stopped working , there were 6 spider webbed shaped nicks on the windshield of my mom's 1975 Mustang. Three Rivers Glass fixed it the next day.
Just my .02 and then some...

The hoods are aluminum on these cars. Just check with your local body shop.
Good luck!
After you wash the Marauder go for ice cream:):):)

Thats bad. But you can,t blame her for trying to help. I do this when my Nicies come over and want to help. I have some old remote cars and they clean them. I get my car cleaned without damage and they are proud of the cars they got cleaned!!!

3 1/2 is a good age. It's not an impressionable age yet. She had forgotten about it 2 hours later. :D
Just don't mention it around her anymore.

my neighbor's daughter couldn't the tree sap off her dad's new t-bird [she was surprising him for father's day], so, she went into the house and got a brillo pad...
Thanks for all of the good advice. I'm not sure she remembered, but then again, she didn't want to wash cars last night either. That may have had more to do with raining last night.
Instead of car washing, we played horsey and when my knees couldn't take that anymore, she just jumped up and down on my head and back.
